Staving Heroin Addiction

Thank you,

and I'm hoping maybe you can provide a fact that disproves that psychology plays 50% or more?
Just curious cause I must be behind on my research. =D

fine. i deleted all my messages. in the spirit of harm reduction, let's tell all addicts to try chipping. I bet it will work out great.

uh...this was in response to lefty's post which has now disappeared.

I believe that sometimes we try to reason things out as follows.

We go through HELL to finally get clean. And then start wondering, well if I was strong enough to make it through WDs, I'm just sure I could never fall back into the cycle of active addiction. I hate where I was and I'm going to be so, so careful. But since I am being really careful, I probably could take a "taste" on very rare occasions. And from there, most will agree where it will end up.

I have read a bunch of threads over a period of time. I don't believe, however, that I have ran into ONE post where the originator is boasting about "chipping", after coming from a full blown active addiction. At least if their planning on staying clean.

I'm sure that by chipping, we aren't planning on falling back in addiction. But then, I doubt there are many that planned on a problem to start with.

Just my opinion.

^^im sure many people do that, and im sure many addicts COULD go back to chipping if it were only based on willpower but it isnt..it is biology that will doom them in...the paws and depression and complete lack of motivation that follows a single use of heroin is what will eiother 1-lead them straight back into active addiction or 2-pretty much continue to live out a miserable life, high for a few hours then feeling like shit for 2 days...its either one or the other..once you have been addicted, it isnt like you can chip and then have zero side effects from it...opiate use seems like it is tattooed into your brain forever..

hell most addiction docs would forbid any opiate addicts from ever drinking again or using any sort of pills..that im skeptical of...

The only addicts I've known who've been able to "chip" "successfully" over a period of time are those with limited resources, geographic access problems, or else their in a [low dose] subs program which requires monthly urine screens. In other words, outside factors help regulate their usage. None of these guys are thiefs or dealers.

I used to be very successful at using opiates only rarely when I had very limited access to them. Now I have too many connections (well, an opiate addict can never have too many connections really but that's getting off subject..)

I think you really have to know yourself very well and have some serious self control to not let Heroin become a daily habit, it's by far the most addictive drug I've come across, or maybe it's just my favorite. I don't know, chances are if you you use once in a while you'll eventually use everyday but that's neither here nor there, it's your life, you can do what you want with it, plenty of "successful" people have been or are drug addicts. If you want something bad enough you'll do it. That's the way I look at it. I'd rather take opiates everyday than get drunk every night, I'm much healthier now on opiates than I was when I was getting drunk every night.

^^oh sure id rather use opiates every day over alcohyol as well but then u need to factor ibn the cost..its impossible to maintain a heroin habit and keep a job/house etc etc..
