Starting on Paxil - getting tremors

My doc has stopped prescribing me benzos and has put me on Paxil for anxiety and insomnia. I took my first pill a few hours ago and my hands won't stop trembling and i'm feeling a panic attack coming on, benzos aren't an option. I have some valerian root capsules and a passionflower/mulungu mix I bought from a herbal shop. Is it safe to mix all these herbs with the Paxil or not? What should I do?

Valerian root is fine to mix with Paxil. If you are having tremors, I have to ask were you using benzos daily or benzo dependent before stopping? Benzo wd's are no joke, and in fact can be fatal. Could it be the Paxil? Yes, it could, but I am worried about benzo wd's due to the tremors and pre-panic feelings you are reporting.

I wouldn't take passionflower with paxil, it might have MAOIs which can be dangerous. Valerian should be fine.

You may be experiencing the extrapyramidal side effects of SSRI.I doubt any of these herb will help with that, though if it's from benzo withdrawl valerian might help. I'd see your doctor, maybe switch to something else.

Your doctor is an idiot if he thinks SSRIs help insomnia, hell they give me insomnia. Maybe mirtazepine or a more sedating anti-depressant.

I've had hand tremors for as long as I can remember it just feels worst since the paxil but, I've had benzo withdrawls before and I'm definitly not going through that, I've taken some valerian and chamomile tea and it's seemed to of helped a bit. Thanks

Tremor and somnolence are listed as side effects of the drug with somnolence seemingly quite common, so purely from what it "says on the tin" it seems like reasonable effort at resolving your issues putting aside the arguments over the actual effectiveness of SSRI's.

The tremors are normal, unpleasant as they are, but of you are really reefing like a panic attack is coming on that you don't think you can deal with, can you contact your doctor or another medical service for advice / treatment. Valerian root is OK but I find its effect very subtle and unlikely to calm you very quickly if at all given this is most likely a side effect of the SSRI.
