I am being started on 30 mgs/day for a week then upped from there. I am also leaving to go to Italy and France for a month in 2 months. Do they have methadone clinics over there that would be willing to support me? If I have my DOC write me a note, could I get prescribed doses in Europe? Also, right now I have to go to the pharmicist everyday to get my dose, do you think in two months they would let me take 2 weeks or a months dose with me if I show clean drug tests between now and then. Cheers

Steve

Ask the doctors at the clinic, it depends on the program.

Generally you have to recieve treatment in your country of origin.

Buy a LOT of poppy seeds from a bulk store. You can administer tea made from these that contains significant quantities of opiate alkaloids. Use the tea to manage your symptoms until you can retrurn.

This is if your dr. Refuses to or is unable to help you. A last resort, should you need it. Trust me, it works.

Sorry to say this, but your methadone clinic isn't going to work with you by giving you a bulk amount to take on vacation with you. You might want to look into getting on bupenorphine(suboxone). I threw my dose of methadone up one time at my local clinic and went back inside asking her for another dose explaining what had just happened and she told me that since she didn't see me throw up she can't recompensate me, and this is when I had my own father with me telling her he witnessed it happen.

PoppyPlant is right, sadly. There's really no room for respect and true compassion, at least in the realm of maintenance programs.

Suboxone is better, too, IMO, and you get treated with more consistently displayed true respect for your human nature.

Still, poppy seed tea I better than both, done right, IMO. It's easier to taper off of, long lasting, dosable two or three times a day when used as a tool to help people fight opiate abuse and addiction. It's cheaper, and legal until prepared. And it grants life to those who decide to avail of its wondrous utilities. It saved me from death, honestly, and helped me stop my addiction to hydromorphone without he horrors of rehab or me being bound to suboxone or methadone for my "freedom". And it's easy to taper off of, and I was done with poppy tea not a month after quitting all other opiates. It's a miracle, for opiate dependants everywhere, so long as they give it a shot.

I can't describe how beneficial it is, so just try it, and learn for yourselves, everyone.

If he's on a consistent dose of methadone, codeine will do absolutely nothing for his withdrawal. I know this because when I was detoxing off of methadone, I took a handful of oxycodone, and it didn't even warm me back up. This guys best bet is to look into suboxone asap. Suboxone, you can carry-on with you with no problems and don't need anyone's permission to do so, just your personal bottle. It's either that or go searching the streets for heroin, which is truly a horrible idea in an unknown city, let alone a different country.

By the way, I'm not trying to sound snarky to you brighton, it's just methadone is so long acting and it clings to your receptors in an ungodly fashion, that anything as strong as another powerful full agonist, or a swift switch to suboxone, while he's still on a low dose of methadone, would be his best bet. If it comes to that he doesn't have anything else, I'm sure the codeine then wouldn't be so bad if nothing else pans out for him.

^ Sweet as, it was just an idea. I know it wont possibly come close to methadone, but it might get the OP thru a few days if they are desperate.

Try to get some opiates perscribed to you or find a junkie at the clinic who sells ....your kinda fucked. thats what I hate about clinics .....unless your female with a kid no leeway

So I went on the trip, or course they didn't let me carry, although they were willing to let me carry suboxone, it was going to be a big shitty process to get it rxed so I decided to go cold turkey. I was up to 70mgs daily of methadone with another 3-6 80s of oxy daily. I tapered the methadone for the last week, but kept of the oxy. I left expecting the worst, but I had some Clonazepam left for the first week, which got me through. Once that ran out, I had serious issues sleeping and walking. I found my legs felt like absolute lead and my brain was clouded with weird images a lot of the time. Three weeks into my W/D, most of the symptoms had subsided, but it was a difficult ride, but not impossible. I got home a few days ago, and will most likely be going back on methadone today. I used oxy once a few days ago, which will probably show up on my urine test, which is going to set me back another month, but what can you do.

Probably doesn't matter that much anymore, but I've gotta chime in with saying that codeine is definitely not enough on its own. Even if you can get it pure, it has major limitations.

That's why poppy seed tea is so good. It's full of morphine (and codeine, thebaine, and other alkaloids), so you can dose as high a dose as you want without worrying about a ceiling.

I don't care how much of a tolerance/dependance you have to opiates; it doesn't matter. Take enough poppy seed tea, and you'll feel fine. Take even more, and you'll actually straight-up nod.

Besides, poppy seeds are cheaper than codeine pills and less sketchy to buy a lot of. Try it even if you don't need a substitute for your normal opiates. You may be surprised, it's definitely more powerful than you'd assume (what with it being legal until prepared for ingestion).

Sounds like a shitty situation..
But getting subutex illegally in France shouldn't be a problem! Ive heard that there are whole metrostations full of subutex dealers here and there..
Should be cheap too.

I had to wait 90 days of clean urines before I could apple for vacation take homes. Then I had to set it up all in advance and bring back a receipt or newspaper..somettype of proof for every day you are there.

They said I wouldnt be allowed more than 7 days. I would be surprised if a meth clinic would allow vacation shit in just 2 months. They have to obide federal guidelines. And your going to another country.. tehres no way in hell your gonna get like 2-4 weeks worth that is juts a longshot. But why dont you juts ask your clinic?

I wouldnt even get on methadone if your gonna have to switch to bupe or go CT after 2 months.. its just pointloess. You are going to be sick as fuck on vacation... Why not get on bupe, and you can easily get a 30 days script.

EDit:

sorry I just dug up an old thread not to mention you already went on the trip. im a dumbass.

Take this anecdote for what its worth but here goes:

Someone in my suboxone maintenance group, many years ago, was on methadone. He has family in Italy and had to go there when a family member died for several months. He attended a methadone clinic while he was there. I AM NOT SURE whether he planned this out in advance, or whether they just randomly took him, or whatever the case was.

If I were you 'd get on the phone with your current methadone clinic, AS WELL AS methadone clinics in ITALY AND FRANCE and see what they say.

We here, at best, can guess. They can give you definitive answers. Just call them up and get the actual answer instead of hearing everyones guess.

Edit:

wow, once again I get tricked into replying to an old Necro'd thread! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I'm an idiot for going along and not checking the OPs date TWICE today, lol. At least I wasn't yee ole necromancer!

Just OP: why didnt you call and check the M-done clinics over in Europe? Obviously you couldn't have known the story I just posted beforehand, but why didnt you do that on your own anyway and simply check? Cant hurt to make a phone call and ask

if you're 3 weeks into the w'd and you say most of the symptoms have subsided...you could be very very close to being free of the physical dependence... maybe try and continue holding out?

Good Luck either way! :)
