The Starcraft 2 Beta test is in full swing and I still don't have a key... HOWEVER, as of this morning those folks who were lucky enough to be chosen for the beta are allowed to invite a friend to try it out too! So... If anyone has an invite and your friends aren't interested in playing, I'll be your new BFF=D=D=D I'd be way down for 2v2s.

I'd like to see if they pull some kind of World of Starcraft out of this eventually. I was never too into WoW, but I think that it would be irresistible in a futuristic environment.

I was massively into the first game it was epic WIN!
I've also been playing the cracked beta vs AI, works like a charm.
Considering just pre-ordering it at gamestop or the like though as I'm getting bored with playing the comp and
from what I hear a free beta key with your pre-order seems like a good reason to pre-order.
I'm super stoked to see that it's more like the original SC & that SC2 so far doesn't seem like it'll end up being another WC3. (Which I disliked.)
Back in the day I was all about hardcore ladder, can't wait to see how SC2 turns out in that regard.
As for the release date...
It's a Blizzard game. No point in even checking, it's never accurate. ;)

widescreen for the win.

Why didn't Fallout 3's 3D look like that? Total fail Bethesda :!
Sorry for the out of topicness.

Well after breaking down & pre-ordering the game so I could play the beta (figured I'm buying it regardless so why not)
I must say I'm not overly impressed.
I played SC & BW heavily the first few years mostly competitive ladder with good results & obviously I enjoyed the hell out of it.
So far it seems to me that SC 2 lacks the diversity of the original.
To be truly competitive it seems to me that almost all matches rely on "cookie cutter" type builds.
The fact that you must use strategy A to counter strategy B.
Rather than in SC where you could use strategy A, C, or D to counter B is not appealing to me.
Note that these "strategies" are just examples but I hope I'm somewhat clear, :)
Basically what I'm getting at is in the original you had multiple options in each match-up to win a match or counter an opponent.
In SC 2 it seems that your almost forced to use certain strategies in various match-ups to win
& that diverting from said strategies is pretty much a guaranteed loss.
I'm hoping that they make some serious balance changes before the actual release as I was very excited for this game.
Sadly after playing it for a few days I haven't really had much of an urge to continue with it.
I'm hoping after a few days break I can give it another go but so far I'm really disappointed with the game on a competitive level.
I'm sure the campaign's will be great & casual play or UMS games that will be made by the fan base will be fun.
However at this point I'm somewhat disappointed by the monotony of league play.
I enjoy winning & all & am having a good success rate but having to use certain strategies over & over as well as having very limited options in various match-ups if you want to win takes a lot of the fun out of the game IMHO.
Judging by the talk in the forums though they might be fixing some of these gripes by release time so here's hoping.
*Crosses fingers*

Well, I can honestly say that this game single-offhandedly made it so that I no longer want to play video games anymore.

The company in charge of it lies their ass off about everything, and the entire game is focused around EXTREME top end play. I am the single-least "casual" gamer I know, and I can't enjoy the game. It's just not fun. It's about SKILL...that's IT. You have "fun" when you outskill the other person...that's it.

1/10 review imo.

edit to be fair though...the only games I find enjoyable anymore are Super Mario 3 and Super Metroid. I would give the original contra a 0/10.

Isn't this normally what RTS games play like? Starcraft/Warcraft/Age of Empires all played like this from my experience.

this game can make me rage! turns out though that if I listen to certain music I do just fine, otherwise it's a shit-show.

Anyone interested in the game should read this article it's a great take on SC2.

Battle.net 2.0: The Antithesis of Consumer Confidence

Some good observations imho.
Personally I gave up on SC2 at this point.
I played the beta for a bit & was underwhelmed.
Which is sad as I ADORED SC & I waited with much excitement for SC2.
Curse you blizzard for killing my joy. :|

Though my opinion was opposite of whattodohere's.
I felt they made the game way to casual geared & ruined high end game play.
I felt that skill had less to do with winning that it's become way to build order / cookie cutter based.
It seems to me that whichever player is more willing to do cookie cutter builds will win as opposed to the more skilled player.
I find that to be abysmal.
I always enjoyed the more skilled player winning aspect of SC.
As opposed to this new build a certain way or lose that seems to have become prevalent.
On the bright side at least it's interesting how everyone see's thing differently. :)

when is it getting released?

July 27th 2010. - According to Blizzard.

They usually dont announce specific dates unless there certain they'll have the game ready by that time, but considering this is a company with a reputation for delays.. expect anything. :)

I enjoyed Starcraft, was never a huge fan of RTS.. my real joy was the Diablo series, anxiously hanging out for D3.. and hope with the replacement of the old development team that they havn't screwed it too much.

that article was awesome. I really liked the part where it talks about facebook and hypocrisy. It's sooooo true! As the years have gone by the entire internet has gotten so much shittier. Everyone always goes "same as it ever was," but it's not. The entire web 2.0 thing has made the internet "cool" in a way that is taking all the fun out of it.

In sc2's defense, if you go play sc1 then play sc2 it's like night and day. A lot of the changes are things that aren't immediately noticeable without directly comparing the two.

cool to see your opinions industrial, I'm not exactly a "pro" gamer so sometimes things that are skill/following certain patters are difficult for me to distinguish between.
