Well after breaking down & pre-ordering the game so I could play the beta (figured I'm buying it regardless so why not)
I must say I'm not overly impressed.
I played SC & BW heavily the first few years mostly competitive ladder with good results & obviously I enjoyed the hell out of it.
So far it seems to me that SC 2 lacks the diversity of the original.
To be truly competitive it seems to me that almost all matches rely on "cookie cutter" type builds.
The fact that you must use strategy A to counter strategy B.
Rather than in SC where you could use strategy A, C, or D to counter B is not appealing to me.
Note that these "strategies" are just examples but I hope I'm somewhat clear,

Basically what I'm getting at is in the original you had multiple options in each match-up to win a match or counter an opponent.
In SC 2 it seems that your almost forced to use certain strategies in various match-ups to win
& that diverting from said strategies is pretty much a guaranteed loss.
I'm hoping that they make some serious balance changes before the actual release as I was very excited for this game.
Sadly after playing it for a few days I haven't really had much of an urge to continue with it.
I'm hoping after a few days break I can give it another go but so far I'm really disappointed with the game on a competitive level.
I'm sure the campaign's will be great & casual play or UMS games that will be made by the fan base will be fun.
However at this point I'm somewhat disappointed by the monotony of league play.
I enjoy winning & all & am having a good success rate but having to use certain strategies over & over as well as having very limited options in various match-ups if you want to win takes a lot of the fun out of the game IMHO.
Judging by the talk in the forums though they might be fixing some of these gripes by release time so here's hoping.
*Crosses fingers*
