    Welcome Guest!

ssri's-permanent roll blockage?

I was on Wellbutrin for about 6 months and rolled for my first time while on it. I've only rolled once so I don't know if it was a full roll but I was definitely uncontrollably dancing and felt on top of the world so I have reason to believe I was rolling while still taking SSRI's. I've since been off of them for over 3 weeks now and I'll be rolling this weekend and posting a report on how it goes afterwards to inform everyone on my experience with it.

Wellbutrin isn't an ssri.

Just gonna make this point regarding brain chemistry.
You CAN talk to your doc/psychologist about these things without getting in trouble. I regularly discuss my drug use with my doctors, too keep them informed about any possible interactions as well as learning as much as I an from them about the drugs themselves.
I'd say ask the doc. Always worked for me

This varies a great deal idiosyncratically. Some people can roll just fine after the SSRI clears from their system (up to two weeks for SSRIs with very long half-lives). Others require more time, perhaps six months or more. It is clear that an SSRI regimen would induce downregulation of 5ht receptors, attenuating one's response to MDMA, but this alone can't explain some individuals' enduring non-response to MDMA.

re: changes in gene expression:

what types of changes would we expect?

This explains why i can't roll. I was on prozac for 1 month 6 years ago and citalopram for months but haven't taken any in 3 years.

I was able to roll ON Celexa (citalopram)... its a selective SSRI... I rolled my fucking ass off both times I tried while on it. Now when I was on Paxil I couldn't feel a damn thing... The SSRIs that are receptor selective are much less likely to mess with drug experiences.

I was on 20mg Prozac daily for a year before I discovered MDMA. I wasnt aware of the possibility of SSRIs to diminish/block rolls. For the first 3 months that I rolled, I continued the 20mg Prozac daily and I rolled perfectly fine every single time. Then I was taken off the Prozac and to this day my rolls are still amazing.

Prozac, Celexa, Lexapro - these are the ones that people still generally can roll their faces off on.

The rest of the SSRIs - you're boned.

No.
There is actually not a whole lot shared between the three drugs that you mention (except that Celexa and Lexapro are the same molecule, but Lexapro is only the s isomer of the racemic celexa. Celexa and Lexapro are highly selective SSRIs; Prozac distinctly non-selective).

Theoretically, those SSRIs with the lowest binding affinities at SERT would interfere least with MDMA.

aint no permanent roll blocking from SSRI, but they do change your brain and we are mostly creatures of habit and repetittion here on this blue earth. we adapt and get use to things. Just like the brain gettin used to smokin ciggz.

So if you have been on prozac for years, its gonna take your brain some serious habituatin to get out of its SSRI blockin pattern even while yer off it. Sometimes maybe even then it could take some years.

hell no Id never fuck with my seratonen.

Wow! That's pretty heartening right BL? Although I expect that many BLers will be skeptackle. I'm on celexa and well utrin and I want to stop taking it for reasons described in this thread...

You can roll quite hard on Wellbutrin... Its a dangerous combo though because Wellbutrin is like shooting high doses of amphetamine into your brain...

I'm on an SARI and I stop taking it a week before I want to roll and have never noticed any diminished effects. I say go for it.

@magicalkat -'haha I don't think wellbutein does anything like that

@ebola hey when are we gonna dose celexa and roll face again.

@ everyone, I fear the reason many of us are on ssri/AD

I was on Zoloft for several years and during that time could not roll at all. Would take 10 pills at once and feel nothing. That's why I started doing meth regularly, cuz i couldn't roll but i could tweak. Bad transition, I don't recommend it.

After being off the Zoloft for about a year I found that I could roll again, so the anti-roll effects were NOT permanent for me.

wellbutrin is not like that.

Really? Because the norepinephrine release from that crap is worse than taking meth - I'd take a meth pill before I'd put wellbutrin in my system again. I lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks on that shit even though I was eating everything in sight. Now I've been off of it for over a month and I have cachexia and keep losing weight so much that I'm now 128 pounds and 6'2...

And I rolled on wellbutrin once and it was way too intense and the speedy effects were way pronounced so I speak from personal experience. 160BPM when I was on some CLEAN molly

I took the SSRI Paxil for 8 months, and I've been off of it for going on two years. I've rolled almost 10 times since being off of it, and everything was back to normal.

Strangely though, I had rolled while on Paxil a few times and I still rolled in a different way. Sure it was a little different, but it wasn't like popping a dud pill which many claim.

Anyways, I was only on 10mg of Paxil which is a lower dose, and that could have something to do with it.

The first time I rolled after quiting Paxil was 6 months later, and the magic was certainly back to normal.

Honestly I think it depends on the person... My best friend Jenn can roll on Zoloft but couldn't roll on Paxil or Effexor... While I know many that take Effexor just BECAUSE they can still roll (what a stupid fucking reason to take a horrible drug).

SSRI Paxil fucked me up and my life worse than any illegal drug. Actually, only bad experience I've ever had with drugs. Fuck SSRIs, never taking that b/s again. I'd be careful with these government drugs that supposedly "help" people, which they do not.

Its all a part of the "sick care" system we live in but that's for another thread.

Celexa fucked me up bad. I can't believe I almost let the doc put me back on it before remembering about 5-HTP...
