SSRI and bupe safe?

can you tell us the name of the ssri for confirmation? that's a vital piece of information.

generally speaking ssri's and bupe are fine together, though.

Leftwing -- It's citalopram. Taking it for some long drawn out benzo withdrawals I've had for over 5 months now. Worried I may be digging myself a deeper hole, though.

There are a few interaction checkers on the internet:

This one suggests increased risk of CNS depression - I am really not sure what the mechanism of that could be though, and it doesn't explain it..

This one says no interactions found.

The problem with "no interactions" is that it just means no interactions in the database - not that none exist. However, I am struggling to come up with an explanation for why citalopram would increase the CNS depression from buprenorphine... it shouldn't interfere with the metabolism as far as I am aware.....

Have you been prescribed them both by the same doctor/different doctors who were aware that you were on the other drug? You can generally trust what a doctor prescribes for you - obviously sometimes people make errors, but overall if you have been prescribed them both I really would not worry.

which SSRI are you on? some SSRIs inhibit 2D6 which is the same enzyme that metabolizes bup, and thus could lead to excess levels of bup in your bloodstream.

either way, you should be fine if you have a tolerance to opiates.

^ Citalopram, which I don't think does inhibit that enzyme...

Hmm. I'm a tad benzo'd though, so I wouldn't like to say for sure..

Thanks for the info. The bupe is actually unprescribed, which is why I didn't bring it up to my doctor. I don't think I'm going to keep taking this, though. Last night I was fine but today I'm lying on the floor nauseous with a migraine. My benzo withdrawal has been bad but not having trouble getting off the floor bad.

I do indeed have a trigeminal nerve. ;)

If you're asking if I have trigeminal neuralgia, no I don't. If you have it, though, I'm sorry, I know it can be horrendous for some people.

Anyone know how long these headaches and nausea will last? I kind of don't want to give up on the SSRI yet, considering how fucking shitty the last few months have been. Really bad.
