I'm trying to figure out why some nights I get significantly drunker with the same amount & same type (not mixing) of booze. I have noticed it seems to be (doesn't mean it is cuz I'm on other medications also but not at night when I drink) somehow associated with my SSRI (luvox) although I'm unsure how at this point. It seems if I drink BEFORE taking it, I find myself significantly drunker faster (again COULD be me either drawing misplaced or nonexistent conclusions) & when I do take it I not only require more alcohol to get as drunk but if I drink so much that I forget to take it alltogether, I've ended up in the ER 3 times for severe hyperemesis, fever, shaking, confusion, sweating etc.

Not sure if this is w/drawlal from the SSRI itself or something related to stomach acid or simply physcial dependency on my ssri b/c I am 29 & have been on it since I was 14. But am trying to figure out more of the pharmacological dynamics b/c if I could, I'd like to try & wean off it. I was prescribed it 15 yrs ago b/c of a severe debilitating OCD flare up. Not for depression.

Anyone who can shed any light on this I'm appreciative in advance. Any additional questions you may have I'd also be more than happy to answer. Thanks.

I have been on SSRI's for 25 years. When I drink alcohol every experience is different. Sometimes if I drink many hours after taking the anti-depressant it takes longer to feel the alcohol's effects; sometimes it takes less time. Food or no food, same thing -- there is no regular pattern. However, I did have my liver enzymes checked and the ones that process the drugs I am on are elevated, so no more alcohol; my liver is overworking. Point is, there are so many variables, day to day, week to week, so many different gene expressions, more or less food in the gut, etc., almost anything can happen. Don
