Sports: Are you a homer?

Oh hell yes I am a homer. I was born and raised in Ohio, so naturally I am going to root for my local teams, as I feel they represent the whole state and region I am from.

I never mind when someone roots for a team outside of where they are from as a secondary team, but I've always found it silly when someone roots AGAINST their local team. I always wonder if those type of people also root for the Russians against the Americans in the olympics...

It's not as if the entire Cincinnati Reds were born and raised in Cincinnati.

I've always found it silly when someone roots AGAINST their local team.
When information and passion about that team are constantly forced down your throat, it's very easy to root against them.
I do kind of think if I lived anywhere else besides the Philly market I wouldn't mind the homer team....it's just easy to hate Philly.
Geographically, where I grew up NYC was a little closer to Philly and the only NY team I hate, and the hate has sort of just begun, is the Jets.

What if they left their home state and are now in enemy territory? I will always root for the Dolphins, Canes, and Heat regardless of where I end up living in the future. Would you switch alliances if you moved to say, South Florida?

If I moved to another city, no I wouldn't feel the need to root for wherever I moved. I might root for them on the side, but not make them my favorite team.
For example, when I moved to L.A for 2 1/2 years, I went to a few UCLA games and I guess you could say I became a fan. If OSU ever came to play UCLA, you can bet I'd be rooting for the Buckeyes.

i'm one of those weirdos who hold no team close to heart. when i watch a game, i watch it for the skill and back and forth excitement. for that purpose, i would commonly barrack for whoever is losing, even if that means changing several times throughout the match. i like to watch tightly contested displays of energy and skill. it's far more enjoyable, to a weirdo like me, than going for just one side.

but then i also hardly watch sport

^ I can sorta see where you are coming from. for example, if I have no stock in two teams playing, then I really just want to see a good game. so if the game is almost over and the losing team has a chance to come back and maybe put the game in overtime, I will root for the losing team to score, because overtime in sports is across-the-board fun :D

Anybody else out there that hates the local teams?

YES! I always root against them. With the exception of the Orlando Magic, but I don't follow the NBA too too much so that may change. The reason I root against home teams is that I like to see the "bad guy" win. I like to see the upset faces of all the local team fans who cheer for the "favorite" (even though they may not be the actual favorites) Fuck the home teams!!

"Having a favorite baseball team is like having a favorite oil company." Hunter S Thompson (could apply to professional sports in general, not just baseball)
