I have a COMT mutation which increases the amount of dopamine I have. It causes negative problems. Does anyone know of a way to speed up dopamine utilization/metabolism? Thanks.

It causes negative problems.

Care to elaborate? You are assuming a lot, here... like forgetting COMT acting on norepinephrine/adrenaline as well.

There are drugs like reserpine which deplete monoamines artificially, but as far as I can tell there's not a compound which will increase the rate of dopamine breakdown selectively.

You'd want a Monoamine Oxidase inducer, or a COMP inducer. I don't think such a thing exists, but that's what you'd want. Other practical ideas are transporter inducers (I believe these are known as reuptake enhancer) and liver enzyme inducers.

But in all actuality though, what you're asking for doesn't exist. We don't know of such a compound at this point in time. If we did, I'm pretty sure that drug would be used for all sorts of Dopamine related disorders. In fact, if you could actually decrease the amount of Dopamine released from something - you would even be able to make an extremely addictive drug (say....morphine for instance) and make it so psychological addiction to it wouldn't even be possible.

Sorry, but the kind of drug your're asking for doesn't exist. There are some herbal supplements that appear to decrease monoamine activity (such as apigenin in chamomile, or Hypericin in St. Johns Wort). But the extend to which these drugs decrease monoaminergic activity is negligible. St. Johns Wort actually increases and decreases monoaminergic activity through different mechanisms.

Are you actually diagnosed with this? Or did you read the Wikiarticle on it and decide you have it? Because, if you actually have this - you should be seeing a doctor. There are actual ways of treating a disease like this, but none of that can be accomplished through the internet. You need a doctor.
