During the SWOT VAC and exam period (the last month - 6 weeks) I hit the speed pretty hard. I didn't go over the top, but i was taking pretty much every day to keep me on track with late night study and concentration.

Now that exams are over, I'm having trouble coming off the stuff. The days i tried not taking anything, I couldn't get out of bed, was dizzy, lethargic, hungry and bitchy. The withdrawal symptoms are excruciating.

So i'm trying to wean myself off the stuff gradually. The problem is that my guy has gone away for a couple of weeks and i'm nearly outta the stuff. Nobody else i know deals with speed.

I was wondering if I used XTC for a bit, how similar this is to speed?(sulphate, not meth) I know it won't be exactly the same, but they do have some similarities right? XTC is much easier to get. My guy is away for a couple of weeks, so it will only be short term.

Any advice is appreciated!

thats really not a good idea, and no ther not the same, binging on speed is different to binging on mdma, most people who have tried binging on both say that binging on mdma is pretty pointless after the first night. this is just my hypothesis but seretonin in the brain doesnt recover nearly as fast as dopamine which is what speed mainly works on.

mabey you should goto the doctor and try to get a weaker amphetamine based stimulant like addreal to wheen urself off or go cold turkey... not trying to downplay ur problems but ur withdrawls sound bareable without exams to worry about

speed is great for study, but whenever i use it for that purpose i try just having one really good speed day of study, ill study productivly for like 6 hrs or more, and the other days ill use caffine and ciggerettes to get me thru, i always feel like crap by the end of it :P

this may be irresponsible advice but here goes:
From all acounts meth is not physicaly addicive so all your symtoms are simply your mind rebelling again this brave new world your thrusting upon it.
Sollutions for this include;
1) Mind over mater- simply convince yourself that you don't need the damn stuff. It served its purpose and now you are getting on with the rest of your life.
2) Slow Reduction- Take increasingly small amounts until your completly off it. You may even find that having a cup of coffee or a nasal decongestant will do the trick. Rember your not addicted physicaly, your brain just want that "amped" feeling so it doesn't have to be amphetamine that gives your this feeling.
3) Have a good trip - Take some good acid or smoke some DMT and meditate on why you realy need speed at the moment. You may never want to toutch it again afterwards, some people I have talked to swear by this. (ITS ALSO THE IRRESPONSIBLE ADVICE I MENTIONED ABOVE)

I know this hard core meth addict that hates pills and never touchs them is he has some meth but when he's dry on meth he crush pills up and snorts them by him self. he does not listen to music he just snorts them and go about his normal life.

Continued MDxx use is not anywhere near as sustainable as amphetamine use. There is a study around showing that, if the same dose of MDMA is administered every day, by the fifth day there's little to no effect. Upping the dose doesn't do much either. Serotonin depletion gets you.

Are you surprised you're having withdrawl symptoms? The fact of the matter is that you're going to have to deal with them, and taking more drugs is not the solution; it's only going to fuel a building addiction.

Dude thats probably the best thing that could happen to you. Sure the next few weeks are going to hurt, but the human body was never meant to be pounded with amphetamines every day for six weeks. Man, you must get such a different reaction to speed than i do, because i sure as hell couldn't study if i'd even looked at speed. Doesnt the fact that you feel like shit when you're not on drugs, tell you something. I think you've got a valuable wake up call. Be strong man and get off the stuff full time. You'll feel so much better for it.

Good luck,

fuck in heaven

This is misleading...quitting meth might not produce physical withdrawals like quitting heroin can, but methamphetamine is definitely addictive. Smoked crystal is more addictive than heroin.

Methamphetamine is addictive. The best way for the original poster to solve his problems is to stop using speed for a while. Preferably a long while. It'll be hard (quitting addictive drugs always is) but it's the only way.

Just ride it out dude, it won't kill you.
S;eep heaps, eat heaps, and take vitamins.
The worst withdrawls I ever had ws after using pretty much everyday for about 12 months. I was shaking (hello parkinsons LOL) for a few weeks, but that went away.
The lethargy stays for a while, but I found having tea or coffee when I was feeling really tired helped alot :)

good luck man

ps: respect the dexies or they'll eat you alive ;)

Hey Carbine, i know exactly what u mean. I am a tweaker, who smokes everyday for 3 weeks, and still going cause i have one more exam tommorow.

Last thursday i decided to stop for a couple of days till sunday. I went through hell and back, i kept on blacking out, felt so brain dead, sick and irritated and would snap at everyone. Next day i started to get chest pain, and was tripping out after smoking a 50 of weed, and blacked out some more.

The only way around this was to smoke, drink, take benzos and sleep so you suffer the least and to take vitamines (B). Anyways on sunday, i didn't even smoke meth, just cleaned the pipe and i was alright again. BTW i wouldn't recommend doing xtc for a speed comedown, cause it's gonna fuck u up more, and you gonna have a worse comedown. Maybe you can take some ritalin, or dex as they are softer on the CNS.

OOPS i re-read my post and it sounds like i was taking meth. I've NEVER taken meth. I've only been using speed (amp sulphate) to study/diet/keep my depression and grief at bay. Sorry bout that guys...

binging on mdma is the dumbest thing u could do, ever. Just ask a mate of mine who went on a 5 day binge and now he can hardly talk and when he looks down the world spins.
He will never be the same, read the medical reports done on mdma where they gave monkeys mdma over 4 days or something and they lost 70-90% (can't remember exactly but its in that zone) of the brain serotonin cells.

Either way you are suffering withdrawls that will be almost identical. Also did you test the amphetamine to know that it wasnt meth? As for the withdrawls, I'd say ride it out and learn a lesson, its not something to mess with and you shouldnt use it for study the way you have.

^ meth/speed was made for everyday use, but once you start you shouldn't stop. How can you learn a lesson from meth withdrawls? I have been through withdrawls how many times, but still continue to use it for study despite the withdrawls, cause its the only way to concentrate and understand shit.

@ baileylsd are you sure your friend is not suffering from hppd? Cause whenever i take MDMA or hallucinagens it gets worse. When i look at anything bright or the sky, i get these distortions which make it look like the world is moving while im not.

I can only suggest as some others have, i.e. to quit and ride out the crash period. I've had times when I've used for study purposes, and some of those have been tough to get through. But it feels great once the craving stops and your natural energy returns.

I'm uncertain whether lorenzo-benzo - last post- meant stopping altogether, or in the middle of exams. If it's the later then I agree, it's probably not a good time to quit.

But if this is to mean continuing after exams, and from Carbine's first post, it sounds like that is her concern; then I suggest it's definitely worth exchanging 4-5 days of pain and discomfort for this renewed clarity and depth of feeling. The focus and concentration lacking during withdrawal eventually returns, and is often more coherent and sharp than during those last days of use. If sleep is compromised too much during use - which it nearly always is - it makes sense that cognitive function will be impaired.

For me, I will bump along (excuse the pun) for days, sleeping badly and feeling completely exhausted during normal periods where my bio-rhythm energy cycle is low (for Moi - ~10:00 am and 4:30). But after around 4-5 days I wake up feeling fantastic. The natural high at this time is usually enough for me to completely lose any desire for the drug. However, it also seems to be the worst time for relapsing if someone spontaneously suggests a line etc.

If I can resist using during this final withdrawal period of 1-2 days, I have no problems, and a natural feeling of repulsion returns for the drug. After this- for me - it actually takes willpower to indulge.

I would also suggest that unless your willpower is strong, you may be tempted to re-indulge when your boyfriend returns. For some people, it seems complete removal from familiar surroundings is required, but with 6 weeks using, it shouldn't be too hard. Best of luck

Thanks to all that replied! Your info was muchly appreciated.

I managed to get on to a friend of a friend and get some of my usual stuff...hoping to wean myself off it but in all honesty, i'm not sure how it'll go...I've tried and failed b4 spectacularly so i'm xpecting this'll be the same...

Just don't consider failure as an option - make the decision and stick to it. Reduce the dose gradually, then when the dose is small, start taking them further and further apart. Never go backwards and increase or redose quicker than you plan to.

The success of quitting a substance begins with the mind.

Give yourself some credit! Expect more!
