Didnt see a thread so i made this?
Anyone else like a bit of speed garage?
I am trying to diversify my taste outside of drum and bass with the garage seen?

Nah your on your own there, here, and everywhere. I'm listening to acoustic guitar just now; and thinking how I can layer it into a garage track.

Really no one here listens to garage?
i thought in the mid-late 1990s speed garage was real big

Of course they do, always been big here in Sheffield, since it was invented here, it's coming back despite the police & council trying to shut it down. My pal runs a new label Urban Sprawl...

Will have to get him on Youtube, here's a few soundcloud links...

Ok right
so if i understand right
speed garage and bassline and shit right
thats a northern thing, right, like modern day?
Cause i iz herd the oldschool speed garage joint its a london thing, but i thought garage and bassline was a northern thing and jungle/drum and bass was the london style

It started in Niche in Sheffield in the early 90s, then it spread around the country, got a bit popular in the late 90s & then it died off a bit after Niche closed in 2005, but it's still around in Sheffield & the midlands, a few people are making new tunes & trying to bring it back. It took the name of the club, 'Niche'. The clubs used to attract working class lads, the police & council didn't like that so tried to shut them down, Niche is still closed.

Few history links...

Jungle came from Hardcore, which was mainly white & northern, they started adding ragga elements & bass to breakbeat hardcore, lost the pianos, got a few black people & Londoners involved. I think it was mainly London & southern hardcore DJs that started it, but it's international since the late 90s. England is a pretty small country anyway, they'd all drive to raves all around the country. Wasn't ever exclusively a London sound, more an urban sound, it was big in other big English cities, London, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Notts, Sheffield, Leeds, etc. Bristol always had some of the best producers like Krust & Roni Size.

I blame London for shite like dubstep & grime.

SPEED GARAGE IS STILL COOL.
i iz got this joint maximum speed on.
mostway through disc 1
From 97, allegedly "underground house and garage"
shit is hot son.

This mix is not Speed Garage but falls under 'UK-G' its the London sound that came out of Garage in the early 00's, this is a good little mix as it progresses through the early days of Grime and moves forward. One thing I like about the genre is the energy it produces live, to a lot of people its all just bass with Angry black men shouting over it, yes there is some of that but if you dig deeper and check the lyrics then you will find there is more to it that initially may seem. As far as it goes when it comes to live Raves then the only urban music to come close it Drum and Bass. Here is the mix anyway man, its worth checking out as it really is the History of Grime give or take a few tracks and time constraints plus he mixes in so many tunes so fast its always moving and interesting. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP12tSkOAIA

Late 90s stuff is rocking if you ask me. Have quite a few tunes from that era. Wouldn't mind jumping on the decks at one of the events!!
