Hello everybody,

When I was first being exposed to recovery, I loved to listen to speaker tapes and attend speaker meetings. It was an amazing feeling to be able to identify. When I go to meetings now, I tend to go to Basic Text studies but still will go to a speaker meeting here and there. Plenty of "speaker tapes" exist on youtube. I thought I might share two I really like and add too it. I was thinking this thread could include stories of recovery from all paths/walks/methods/solutions so please feel free to add. I will share Narcotics Anonymous tapes because it is what I am familiar with. One of my favorite things to do is download these and listen to them on car rides.

This one is pretty funny, the guy has some pretty old school NA vibes (nothing wrong with that, but it can be abrasive and isn't really my style) but his attitude is good:

I don't have fast enough internet access currently to download or listen to even any streams of speaker tapes however whenever I go two meetings I almost always go to speaker meetings and I can definitely relate 2 how much it helps being able to relate to someone and the feeling when someone else seems to tell your story in the details may be different but knowing that the feelings are all the same is quite something. I have been the speaker of myself at handful of meetings now and it's always really incredible to talk to people after the meeting and listen to them tell you how much what you said made a difference for then especially to the newcomers.if something I say helps just one person then I feel like I did something good. if any of you get some time under your belt and you get a chance I would definitely recommend speaking at a meeting it can make a huge difference not just for you but for someone else.

I haven't spoke at a meeting this time around (yet), but I was frequently asked to before. I actually love speaking and chairing and other service work. Last night I chaired a speaker meeting, I spent a good hour talking to someone new. All I do is put myself out there and make myself available, NA is a "program of attraction". Its all about the energy that you put out.

Yep. I like being the speaker because I can share my experience of working through the steps as a non theist and how I worked the god steps without actually involving any sort of god. Not enough people ever hear "higher power of your own understanding" fully explained. I never would have worked the steps if it hadn't been explained to me, and I'm so grateful that it was because the major transformative shit has nothing to do with "god" anyway.

i'm a big fan of xa-speakers.org
