I have been taking Celxa-one of most infamous SSRI's that cause withdrawal-and do I need to rant about my stupid pharmacist? Well this is the second time they filled the wrong medication, and guess what now? No Celxa= major headache and very strange feeling!:!

Since my depression is gone and I was weaning myself off anyhow, I am wondering if any of you have gone through this? For I want to know how bad it can get. I have been on it for almost a year now, just recently got the highest dose (like 2 months ago) and I weaned myself off to 50mg instead of 60. But now I have none.

I train in MMA extensively- at least 6 hours a day (yes I am drug free now!)- and I do NOT want this stupid situation interfere with my performance at practice. So is it easy to fight through it?

I should note that I use to do heroin and I went cold turkey from that, so if SSRI withdrawal is equal to and God forbid worse than that then I am worried!

My headache is a pretty good one, I can feel the onset of the withdrawal coming on, today was my first day not having my Celxa.

Now I am angry with myself letting a doctor give me these god awful medications!

Being stubborn how I am, should I just say F-it and just power through these symptoms? Can these cause harm? I am seeing my doctor on the 17th, I want to tell him I want off of the Celxa completely I know he will not suggest it, so I am wondering since I am already basically kicking this stuff if I should to continue to wean off or just cold turkey it?

Thank you my bluelight friends! I should also add that people on this forum have helped me through my darkest hours!

How long were you on it for? I've been on citalopram for 7 months to a year twice at 40 - 60mg a day and felt no withdrawals at all.. So I wouldn't expect a bad one.

I would say you need to take some of the medication and retitrate and quick! if you have been taking a reuptake of 5-HT you will get sick and have problems like you are having.

When I was 15 or 16 I was on a tricyclic antidepressant I had no idea there would be withdrawal if that's what you want to call it because you feel like hell! I recommend getting some celexa back in you and then slowly take yourself down it is the smartest way.
The reason your sick is because you haven't weened enough before stopping the med. If you can get it to avoid cold turkey I certainly would imho.
All the best and be safe!

Yes, for anyone you takes SSRI's I want you to know withdrawals are very real!

Today I have weird electric shock feelings, cold chills that feel like dope sickness chills.

^ "Brain Zaps" are a common side effect of SSRI withdrawal. Trust me, I have felt them. Those were very weird, as I was at work and it would feel as though my body was being hit with a light electric shock.

I remember coming off celexa a few years ago and I remember it very well, I wasn't on a very high dose but I remember the brain zaps etc. I think Prozac is supposedly very good for tapering from because it is available as a liquid solution so you can adjust your dosage more accurately than with pills. Plus as others have mentioned it has a very long half life which makes things much smoother. Maybe ask your doctor if you could switch over and taper from that :).

Does anyone know if SSRI's can actually be harmful? As in long term negative effects? After getting off of drugs I have became afraid of what chemicals can do to your brain. These brain zaps are very scary as in what THE HELL is my brain going through?

All me paranoid, but I do not think pills that effect brain chemistry can be safe. I am getting off these things ASAP

Brain zaps are hell on Earth. Feels like someone's attacking you with a defibrillator. SSRI withdrawal is downright horrible, but it does subside in the end. Tapering is the sensible option though.

I was on Paxil. I had no insurance and no money for the md appt or med. luckily I worked in a health food store and was talking about it. They suggested I take the supplement GABA. It worked. I had terrible w/d for 3 days. On the 4th it was right as rain. It took it for a little while longer and that's all I needed.

as said in this thread before, prozac (fluoxetine).

or really slow reduction of your daily dosage. (takes up to months for sensible people, so take your time! it's not a shame.)

Today, my third day without was the WORST!

I woke completely clouded, I cant describe it, It was the strangest feeling! Plus intense brain zaps every minute! I had muscle spasms too. Opiate withdrawal is more painful but SSRI's give you the worst mental feeling imaginable.

Luckily I just got my normal dosage in me! Its not like heroin though: when the med kicks in you do not go from withdrawals to feeling normal instantly. Yes the brain zaps are gone but I am still very cloudy.

I think it takes SSRI's a couple days to start functioning again, but hopefully I shall clear up tomorrow.

It does take sometime for SSRI's to start working in you're body. I'd reccomend tapering down in the smallest incriments you can. There is NOTHING on the facce of this earth worse than Brain Zaps, especially the bad ones that feels like you got struck by lightning and you can feel the "zap" start at your head and move down to the toes. Worst worst worst. Best of luck bud!
