So recently their was a thread in this forum subcategory (which i can't find) about a natural opioid compound called matrine. So I invested some money in purchasing a pound of sophora subprostrata which contains matrine and oxymatrine in significant amounts.

After ingesting some, i've concluded that it does has some recreational value. The effects were somwhat typical of an opioid. I've experienced analgesia, sedation, respiratory depression, miosis, inhibition of anti-diuretic hormone (manifesting as frequent urination), and a mild psychadelic effect including altered perceptions, mild hallucinations, and vivid dreams. Their wasn't any significant euphora. Just a slight mood lift.

I think it would be a great potentiator for drugs like buprenorphine (also kappa agonist), or maybe thai kratom.

Discuss.

That's very intersting, how much plant material did you work with to get effect, out of curiosity?

I couldn't find much info on matrine at first glance. That's cool, might work great with kratom. Are you saying it's a kappa agonist?

^ I started low at I think it was 2.6 grams. It tasted horrid, but i was suprised at the potency. My head was almost spinning and when I lay in bed it felt like i was falling. This caused me some mild nausea, and I was feeling rather queezy the next morning too. Even though it's LD50 is high I wouldn't being reckless with dosing, because it can make for an unpleasant dysphoric experience.

It's an agonist at kappa opioid receptors, and partially at mu-receptors according to this study http://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...serid=10&md5=b63cf0c4d4ea1dc6bcbb7ff09bf33431. S

so I guess its effects are due to release of dynorphin, and lesser so enkephalins, and beta endorphin.

Retitled the thread for accuracy (and the fact that we already have a matrine thread, but not a sophora subprostrata thread).

I wonder if this would cause salvia-esque effects in higher dosages? Sounds like it would be more enjoyable than salvia if it at least has partial mu agonism.

if it does actually work then I too think it will be superior to Salvi(i suspect the mu would block the pain effect salvi gives me)and it wont be illegal here in the US... yet. If it doesn't do much I suspect matrine will be a great potentiator
