never good at these sorts of things, but i guess im the atypical adolescent who hopes to one day become an psychedelic psychotherapist with a degree in psychiatry.... plans of somehow obtaining an license from the DEA are at a loss for me so anyone whos ever been able to obtain such a trophy or has undergone a similar career path id love to associate with. im experienced with many RCs and pretty much all except a few of the more common items available to americans and am most indefinitely excited to join a community of like-minded individuals. shoot me a message on my aim whenever you like. and yeah.

Hi, I am also an 'atypical adolescent' hoping to someday get a career in the field of psychedelics, but more into pharmacology and research. I have found there to be an unusually large amount of resources available online providing information on this topic. Check out maps.org . It's a really cool organization.

I also found an article on their website called "Hints for Someone Looking for a Psychedelic Studies Graduate Program", which provides info on psychedelic-related careers of all types.

This should give you a good place to start. Most colleges which give degrees related to psychedelics are in California, but there are a few elsewhere. Good luck to you!

Welcome!

Glad to hear of your ambitions!

I hope to do the same thing one day, whether or not I can do it in the US does not matter to me. People will grow up and realize the US does not have their best interests at heart, and will move to lands with better drug laws.

MDA, MDMA, mushrooms, LSD, all have great potential IMO. I am sure DMT is another great one, but have yet to try it.

Welcome to BL! :D

Welcome to Bluelight. Yes MDMA is one of the greatest tools ever created by mankind and I hope it could be used in psychotherapy sessions in every country in the world someday. Good luck on your endeavors and I'll be seeing you around the forums.

thanks all for the informative and welcoming ummm welcomes? ha ive done mdma, acid, 2ci, 2ce, 2cp, mescaline, pcp, and a few odd ended cocktails of shit which i had no idea contained what... (and of course pot and all that jazz) but in all my experiences ive found candy flipping to be one of the most uniquely insightful and eyeopening experiences ive had to date... what about yall? (sorry from texas ha)

You're very welcome, it's not common to find someone with similar goals to my own. I'm over here in Arkansas. I've actually talked to several of my professors about my goals and they were quite supportive, even though they didn't have any experience in the field or anything.

Eye-opening experiences haven't always been about eye-opening for me. I tried mushrooms many years ago, but I did way too much and had a bad trip. For whatever reason, I continued to try it several times over the next few years, but never did I experience an enjoyable time. It wasn't until I tried acid that my mind was truly opened. Since then, I have had many fun and enjoyable trips. I like to look at Alex Grey's art, listen to Tool, and watch trippy movies. I also love watching the sun rise and chilling by the lake while tripping. What do you like to do while tripping?

I have heard a lot about candy flipping, although I have never tried it myself. I've only done MDMA once, last summer. However, I have tried many other psychoactive substances, including but not limited to: marijuana, morphine, oxycontin, pretty much all opiates, acid, shrooms, cocaine, opium, nitrous oxide, salvia divinorum (which I suggest you try before they make it illegal!), and a lot of other stuff I can't think of right now.

If you are interested in studying psychedelic compounds, their effects on the brain, and possible medical and therapeutic applications you should be considering a career in neurobiology rather than psychology/psychiatry. This will require motivation, intellectual ability, and dedication to complete the 8+ years of requisite education. You will not be able to do anything interesting until you earn your PHD. The laws will also need to change in order for you to have a chance at dabbling in what you hope to dabble in. You would also likely have to make significant contributions to the field in order to get a chance to gain recognition and meet your goals. It will take a lot of work and it is not an easy goal to meet. Fortunately you are still very young and you have a long time to figure out what it is you want to do in life and what you are capable of doing.

Unfortunately, the career path you seem to be interested in would make you a criminal because there is no legal way to go about doing what you propose to do unless the laws change, at least in the USA. In the meantime, you can help to guide others who wish to be introduced to psychedelic through their trips and act as a sober sitter and teacher without having to complete any courses. If you decide to stick with becoming a therapist you could always apply psychedelics in an underground secret setting, but it would take a lot of changes to allow you to do it out in the open.

Welcome to BL.

well i guess i havent truly listed the range of my usage but ive tried marijuana, morphine, several opiates, cocaine, lsd, 2c-i, 2c-e, 2c-p (definitely recommend if ur up for a 15 hr load), bk-mdma, salvia divinorum, mdma (tabs and molly), pcp, and im sure a few other things contained in the cocktails known as pressed ecstasy.... but hmmm when tripping i normally try to deprive myself of all sensory input so my mind my create whatever it pleases... ill honestly say ive never had a better trip than when locked in my room alone i know that can seem a bit different but try it once and see what im talking about. id suggest candyflipping at an event which you truly want to change you. i did so at my first rave and have found myself entirely changed since... i honestly compare it too someone taking your brain and pressing restart ha

I just wish i were able to study the actual effects upon human emotion as well as provide data to the therapeutic effects regarding psychedelics rather than the effects on the brain or body. i guess honestly neurobiology does look like the closest thing ill be getting to that, but since i know nothing about it, is it in any way financially rewarding? (i honestly hate money but i know im going to need it to fulfill the life i want) and thanks im already finding this community more helpful everyday

"Ya'll" haha.

Edit: I don't often hear that in my home city of Chicago, but where I'm at now it seems like everybody but me says it.
