i wrote this listening to a pinback song originally. i knew i wasn't hearing the lyrics correctly, but my brain started making my version of it one day. i decided to write it down and this is what it is. just trying to be honest, i wouldn't have written this without that song.

come to find out underway and require are actually correct. i knew blanket was.

That's something I love doing: playing songs and mishearing the lyrics! I find the words that arise are often inflected with the emotion of the song (but not always).

Often I hear a song in my head, and then I put new words to it. It's a habit I have - it seems to be a mostly subconscious process.

I don't know Pinback's stuff, but I like the words you've come up with. They have a leftfield flow, and a strange beauty to them. The kind of strange beauty I like to hear in song lyrics.

These two lines really hit me in a kind of drugged-out, transportive way:
