The Heat of the Moment
(song lyrics)
Once you were brave
I gasped at your daring
Your risks and your chances
Your path was unswerving
Now it is so sad
As I watch you lie
Boy you’re no Icarus
You’re too scared to fly
And the heat of the moment
Has passed us by
I’m tired of waiting
Of watching the skies
So I tell myself
Just one more night
Just one more chance
Before I take flight
And I ask you this question
Which death is worse
To die in the endeavour
Or remain stuck on this earth?
And the heat of the moment
Has passed us by
I’m tired of waiting
Of watching the skies
i haven't ever written song lyrics before - i didn't intend this piece to be i just started writing and the rhyming and rhythms sort of fell into place and it wrote itself..... it's about how sometimes we can spend our whole life waiting for something and then before you know it your life is over........
All I Did Not Say
Today the sticky heat
Stained the air
With molten fingerprints
And spun threads
Of crystallised nectar
That drooped
In lazy loops
And crazy webs
And caught me like a fly
Outside the clouds
Played tag with my washing
In the wind
And the old woman
Down the street
In her blue dress
Picked flowers from the tree
That overhangs the schoolyard
In the lengthening afternoon
Inside the shadows
Heavied my arms
With looped amulets,
Marked my face
With shallow bruises
And drew graffiti
On the worn linoleum
That defied my attempts
At sweeping
Walking to the kitchen
I picked up the phone to tell you
But you weren’t at home
So now
I am listening
Through tangerine motes
To the dial tone
And all the words
I did not say
(song lyrics)
