Someone explain the enjoyment of tripping to me?

I've read tons of the trip reports and stuff and I just don't understand how its fun or enlightening. It sounds terrifying! I can't imagine going through that for hours. I've tripped before, not like anything I've read here, but even so it wasn't fun and I was begging my friend to make it end.
So I'd like to understand. Is it something about the drug that make seeing all of this stuff not scary, or does it just depend of the individual? And since I'm so dead set that tripping is scary, is it likely that I'll have a bad trip if i take a psychedelic?

I don't think tripping is for you.

It's likely that you're of too conservative a mindset to enjoy psychedelics, so even if you don't have a bad trip you probably still won't enjoy it.

I DO tend to think in the box. I enjoy getting high but tripping seems... too much.

Tripping is awesome. I love acid it's like being sober but on acid. You get to see the world in a new light. It allows you to experience the normal for an alien view point and this causes you to gain a greater understanding and appreciation for life.

Psychedelics are the only way you can turn an average day into the first day of your life.

To answer your questions there is no way to make it not scary. You need to be in a good spot in your life and accept how things are. You need to have no emotional baggage and come to terms with your life. It's all about accepting things. Your life might not be perfect or the way you thought it would be but that doesn't mean you failed.

The hardest part of tripping is believing that whatever is bothering you is nothing and your in no real danger.

I use them for personal transformation. The fun or scary is obsolete in my view.

A good psychedelic exp helps me to appreciate the simplicity in life as well as it aiding me in forming perspective on what I need to do with my life. I practice this same work through meditations, but the plant teachers I go to help me to gain outside perspective. We all get caught up in our own perspective and this holds us back from confronting the possibilities which conflict with our accepted world view. Psychedelics and meditation are wonderful when it comes to allowing a chance to see your self, your reflection, without the same limitations we superimpose over those perceptions normally.

The true work of utilizing these exps though comes in the integration of ones gained insights into ones understanding. A trip can be just a wild ride for those not seeking refinement or development of being..but for those with intentions set on gaining insight or evolving themselves psychedelics can often provide an opportunity to make great progress in this.

Basically I am tripping off the title.... How do you explain something that you can not explain?!?!? Just what the fuck?!!? Like it's living mayun.... Lifes a freaking trip... Ya know? If not.... Well someday you will figure it out.... It's life...

You have to realize that half of taking these drugs is yes, tripping. The other half is how INSANELY FUCKED UP you get. Now, that, you could probably easier understand.

tripping isnt for everyone but it does depend on the individual and his/her mind set, setting etc ime. depends on the compound as well, some compounds break me down more so than others, some leave you more clear headed depends on what your going for really ime. some individuals aren't as easily scared as others, that's not a bad thing either its just the way it is. some also don't see the scariness in some things that some others are terrified over. just like how some are extremely scared of snakes or spiders and others would love to have them as pets in their house even highly venomous species.

tripping isn't about seeing scary stuff. The visuals are a very small aspect of psychedelics. It's the profound change in consciousness which is interesting. It is a beautiful experience in most cases; it's never actually scary unless you are confronting some dark shit you thought was hidden in your mind. Most psychedelics cause an intense euphoria that negates any negative feelings for the most part.

Tripping is unpredictable. If thats something you can learn to accept, it can be enjoyable at times.

Expecting fun times, or worrying about having a troublesome experience is what fucks it up.

You gotta just let it slide over you, and roll with whatever it throws your way. Some people have difficulty doing that whilst not on psychedelics, so everyone's mileage will vary.

"I can imagine that right now, you are feeling a bit like Alice, tumbling down the rabbit hole ?"

It's the not knowing, excitement. ALl of the above posts are true as well.

And as much as I like tripping, the part I love most is coming back in my body in one piece, because that's where I want to be. But sometimes I need another experience to remind me hereof.

there is this quote that comes in to mind: "reality is for the people that can't handle drugs"
:)
you could alway try a light psychedelic like 4-ho-met but i think that maybe its just not your thing

I like tripping because it's fascinating. I'm the kind of person always looking for extremes. See what everything is about. And asking why. I always think about how little anyone actually knows about what is going on around us. And how much more obvious these questions become while tripping. And how any thought or perception can go infinitely inwards. It's interesting to see what combinations of senses will seem new or shocking somehow.

Also, I definitely buy into the "stoned ape theory" of evolution. A drug user can become a new person over night. It's amazing to me to see someone you haven't seen in, lets say a year, and they are still the exact same person. Hung up on the same shit. Looking at me like I'm the same. Then on the other hand, some people, if you don't see them for a year, you're basically meeting them again for the first time once you do.

Not to mention, some of the most important realizations or life changes I've had came directly from drugs.
