I was just curious if anybody knew of any RCs or analogues of soma (carisporadol). Like alprazolam has flualprazolam? Basically im trying to find something that feels like soma but that i can also obtain without a rx

Yes, there are analogs of Carisoprodol (Soma) that are sold in various corners of the internet. We really can´t say where as that is against policy. Carisoprol is a member of the Carbamate family. It is also classified as a non-Barbiturate drug, as it features most of the well-known effects exerted by Barbiturates, though it is chemically distinct from them.

If you google analogs of Carisoprodol, that will lead you in the right direction. I cannot speak to the safety or efficacy of any of these medications though. For instance, there are many analogs of Methaqualone (Quaalude) available for sale, but many of them are considered to be very lackluster and furthermore, many cause potentially dangerous side effects, meaning they are often best-avoided.

Some source say Ethaqualone is afaik about equal but less potent.
a effective oral dose above 200 mg hardly ecoomical.

It was prescription in France at this dose so not more dangerous.
But hardly economical but it was sweet. The Qualdade seem s there.
Risky. but Ethylqualone wa a med like Qualude in Frensch.

Test before advance to in-vivo testing risky in case of sezures

There are several structurally related compounds to meprobamate, though only a few have seen significant use. The most well-known ones include:

1. Meprobamate – The original anxiolytic and muscle relaxant.

2. Carisoprodol – A prodrug that metabolizes into meprobamate in the body.

Other less commonly discussed derivatives include:

3. Felbamate – Originally developed as an meprobamate analog but found use as an anticonvulsant.

4. Tybamate – A lesser-known derivative with similar sedative properties.

5. Febarbamate – A hybrid of meprobamate and a barbiturate.

6. Mephenesin – A related but simpler compound that was an early muscle relaxant.

7. Guaifenesin – A distant cousin that has mild muscle-relaxing properties but is mainly used as an expectorant.

Would you like details on any of these?

Structural accuracy: Meprobamate is 2-methyl-2-propyl-1,3-propanediol dicarbamate. The core structure is a substituted propanediol (specifically 2-methyl-2-propylpropane-1,3-diol) with carbamate groups at both the 1 and 3 positions. This makes "propanediol carbamate" the more structurally descriptive and accurate classification.

Historical context: While Ludwig and Piech's 1951 paper on o-toloxypropyl carbamates is an important early reference in carbamate chemistry, meprobamate doesn't actually fit that structural class—it lacks the o-toloxy (2-methylphenoxy) substituent that defines that series. The propanediol carbamate terminology better captures what meprobamate actually is.

Established usage: In the pharmacological and chemical literature, meprobamate has been consistently classified and discussed as a propanediol carbamate derivative, which has become the standard nomenclature for this class of compounds.

So while the Ludwig and Piech paper is historically significant for carbamate research, meprobamate belongs to the propanediol carbamate class rather than the o-toloxypropyl carbamate class.

Yes, there was a tranquilizer popular in the 60's through early 80's. Generic name was Meprobamate (Miltown) was the brand name. In the mid 70's my mother had a prescription for Miltown. She rarely took them so me being 17 took it upon myself to liberate her medicine cabinet. Miltown came in 400mg tablets I think. From what I understand when Soma passes through the liver it converts into Miltown (Meprobamate). I remember the first time I was prescribed Soma I felt a connection to Miltown. Here in the Southern United States a prescription for Soma or Soma w/Codeine is very rare.

@krodhc314 yes, Carisoprodol is partially converted into Meprobamate (Miltown). For most of its history as a pharmaceutical, its effects were attributed largely to this conversion to Meprobamate. More recently, however, it seems that Carisoprodol produces effects in its own right. There is not a lot of useful information to verify these claims, but I do know that there have been cohorts who have preferred Carisoprodol to Meprobamate. Take that for what its worth.

Apparently there are two phases to the metabolism of this drug. The more rapid effects of Carisoprodol itself, a drug with a similar effects profile to Meprobamate, followed by the effects of the Meprobamate itself.
