Hi

Just wondering if anyone could help me out here...naptha is so expensive and I'm not too sure about where to get heptane/DCM from, so could anyone tell me...could unleaded petroleum be used as a solvent when extracting DMT, or would it most likely leave behind all kinds of shit after evaporation?

Thanks a lot

I don't presume you're asking it from the wording, but keep in mind no source discussion - nuke

Yep, I wouldn't trust unleaded petroleum (...I assume this is gasoline), it's presumably dirtier than naphtha. I still recommend alkanes (hexane, heptane) or DCM. Just search a bit and you will find. There's a good reason why these are thought to be the superior solvents in this case.

Again: Please do not use gasoline or alike. Some brands/types even today contain traces of aromatic compounds that won't do you good. They normally evaporate at a higher temperature, and get concentrated upon evaporation.

Think about your liver and how much fun you both can have in your life. Please!

Avoid use of chlorinated solvents in particularly DCM and CCl3, you will end up with a sizeable quantity of the n,n,n-methyltryptammonium chloride derivative as a byproduct.

Gasoline is meant to be combusted in a large engine - don't use it as a solvent...

You could try butane (lighter fluid)

Yeah, but under pressure it is liquid (lighters!). There are several devices out there that apply butane as extraction solvent for THC from cannabis. I mean devices for the layman... The main risk is blowing yourself up when the butane exists the device and evaporates in clouds of explosive mixtures. Apart from this (and maybe the high costs), a feasible method.

The reference is : Forensic Sci Int, 2008, 178 p162

Reaction of DMT with dichlor ends up with n,n-dimethyl,n-chloromethyltryptammonium chloride.

why not just use petroleum ether?

at least over here you can get an especially pure variety that's used for removing the sticky residues of patches from the skin, so it surely won't contain anything toxic.

Petrol ether is a good choice... It's practically mix of hexane- and heptane-isomers.

Pentane works nicer, evaporates a lot quicker.

I have a feeling long time exposure to air results in the formation of the n-oxide, or other colored byproducts, evaporate the fucker as quick as possible.

I have always used Solvent Naptha B for my extractions (just because it was what I had to hand), but it's slow to dry and now I'm concerned about the potential residuals. I now have chloroform and Ethyl Acetate as well. I think Limpet ruled out chloroform, so would Ethyl Acetate be any good? Or should I just wait a week and get some Hexane ordered in?

Chloroform isn't only ruled out due to presumable reaction with the DMT but also for its cancerogenic potential!

ethyl acetate is probably too polar for extracting dmt. even if you get your dmt in significant quantities with ethyl acetate you'd also pull a lot of junk...
another point is that EtAc is better soluble in water than hexane.
