I've found that the simplest of things bring ravers together. I went to a concert in the park last night with my pink hula hoop and my bf, while walking through, this guy saw me, smiled and said "right on!" we high fived. It made me really happy. I was sober and it was a great night.

Damn, I was gonna say Pink Hula Hoops!! Looks like you're ahead of the curve!! :p

Its more than likely true. I am pretty sure I wouldn't have the same success with the pink hulie :p

haha i love raves! i go to most of them sober! i just whip out my light orbit and chill with my friends in a circle and people who are rolling or tripping just come up and stare at it, introduce themselves, and/or ask for a light show! it's a great way to meet people.

This thread makes me happy. :)

I agree, too -- I think most people simply want an opportunity to connect. Your story reminds me of a time that my girlfriend and I went to the boardwalk and saw an old guy carrying a bunch of hula hoops. He was just sitting out on the grass in a little park with his hoops all around him...my girlfriend approached and asked if she could try one out (she's kind of into hooping these days). He said that's why he brought them, and they had a little session right there where they taught each other some tricks they'd been working on. Memorably, I was asked if I was my girlfriend's "baby brother", haha. 8)

Raves are a great place for this sort of thing, obviously, and I truly believe it's not just the drugs that make people open up. It's more the opportunity to realize that we're not just living in close proximity to each other, that we actually have a common culture and a community around us at all times. Sure, you can't trust everyone, but the vast majority of people are intrinsically good and deserve the benefit of the doubt.

*shrug* :)

I club more than I rave and I always take a few extra packets of gum with me - if I spot anyone with a gurn on, I go up and offer them gum :D. Then everytime they pass me on the dancefloor they smile or wave etc - I love it when the dancefloor is a social place full of friendly people.

I love meeting new people. My favorite part is at the end of the night, when you've just spend the last 3 hours running around with this person, you're new friend, telling them things you don't usually tell people, showing interest in everything THEY say, you get their number and fully intend to text them in the morning and you think, "Wait, how did we even meet?" And then you remember back to the beginning of the night when they sat next to you on some bench and you just smiled and they smiled back. That doesn't happen everywhere and that's truly a magical thing!
