"Watch this short video to see how people have become so de-sensitized to others, even to those in obvious distress…….would you have helped the first guy?

It is often said that we are becoming a more selfish and self centred society.
In France a recent experiment put this to the test. They filmed two identical scenarios where a guy falls down in a crowded street, in broad daylight, in pain and in obvious distress. He lies on the floor crying for help...."

If that had been over here some cunt would've robbed him whilst he was lying there.

If I'm totally honest I don't think I would've stopped to help. That would apply to both though cos I'm just shite with that type of thing and would only cause more harm than good. Or be too convinced I would to ever think to intervene.

As it happens, one of my fave pics I took from my photography course was taken at wossit called - the big carnival in London I suddenly can't remember the name of. Yes that one. Anyway some old woman collapsed and got a pic of her lying flat on her face with people mostly just staring disinterestedly. In my defence I could see somebody else rushing over to her - I'm not utterly callous - was a good pic though.

I once walked past a homeless guy who collapsed on a pavement on the opposite side of the road as did everyone else. He had been staggering about before as if he was on something though & he didn't seem to be in any obvious trouble.

I actually stopped to watch for a minute, partly out of curiosity but also deciding if he was alright but no-one else seemed to look twice.

My gf collapsed with IBS on Heathrow tube platform, rolled around in agony for a good ten minutes crying...not one fucker stopped to help. Might have missed the last tube see.

Staggering about appearing to be on something then collapsing is probably the most worrisome type of collapsing cos really could be serious. The falls in that vid were so stupidly fake looking I'm not entirely surprised nobody went for it - in the second case there could be reasons other than just wanting to help a fellow human who appears to be choking or summat. That would be a rather cynical way of seeing things but the first fella didn't look like a tramp - looked fairly ordinary to me - but the second looked wealthy which is not the same as "fine upstanding citizen". Seemed a somewhat distorted comparison but maybe French tramps are just more stylish than ours.

Very true.

I guess people just have this idea of that you should obviously be in pain, struggling to catch your breath or fitting... anyone who doesn't fit in those categories will either be ignored or avoided.

I probably would have at least asked if theyre okay... sad cold society when nobody can give a couple minutes out of their day to help somebody or at least see if there ok regardless of how they're dressed etc

^ This is true. There are loads of similar vids on PooToob. There's a whole series done in America looking at various situations where one group is clearly discriminated against purely on the way they look whether that be race, perceived income or social standing or whatever. It is saddening when people not only ignore but actively abuse - as if people don't have enough shit in their lives - but (being American) they seem to always find some heartwarming story to end it on with somebody going above and beyond to do the decent thing with nobs on. It's not all bad... is a lot of bad though. I'm well-aware of my own short-comings in these areas and ain't proud of 'em at all :\

They should've sent the guy into a pharmacy to buy codeine linctus. That'd be a true experiment.

Hahahahahahaha! =D

My ex was so legit-looking she is the only person I know who could get away with buying two bottles at a time.

The geezer's annoying as fuck but he makes a good point and seems a decent chap. If a bit annoying. There's a lot of those types of vids too where somebody who is clearly a "rich kid" of some kind - whether earned or inherited - who feels the need to make grand gestures as part of the video. It does sound like sour grapes but I think the point is made better when you leave yourself out of it. Looks too much like self-publicity when you make such a show of that sort of thing. It's great that he feels the way he does but I think it's somewhat counter-productive cos you do come across like a dick even when doing it for the right reason. Kinda like when slebs bang on about their charity work. Doing it is great, publicising causes is great, putting yourself and your own actions right in the middle of it leaves a bad taste.

I wouldn't fucking dream of going near a crying kid - you're more than likely going to get some deranged father accusing you of being a paedo. Just not worth it. There's plenty of kids in the world anyway - one less won't make any difference.

I remember someone collapsing beside me and I was just looking at him for a few seconds - at a loss of what to do. I finally twigged he was having an epileptic fit. In the end all i could think of was putting a coat under his head so he didn't bang the floor as much and put him in the recovery position.

An acquaintance of mine had an epileptic fit whilst we were at his for a spliff and a beer one afternoon. Freaked the fuck outta me so called an ambulance. Then got told off by the ambulance people and the geezer for wasting everybody's time. What else do you do when somebody is frothing at the mouth and convulsing though? We're not all au fait with standard practice and it looked like medical attention would be wise to me.
