Im 2 weeks clean, relapsed after 3-4 months clean, used for 2 months this time but it was on the light side of what my norm really is and my detox is over except for light PAWS. So im looking to go straight to Halfway house instead of inpatient but here is the issue...I lost every thing again, ofc. Literally everything no car, 0$ etc... So im being forced to go to halfway house or be homeless. Thing is I cant find any free ones and I don't have that long to find one. I live in Tennessee, and if I could..would like to go out of state so I can rebuild my empire elsewhere. Anyone know of a free program?

The only "free" program I know of is actually somewhere in northwest Middle Tennessee. It's run by fundie Christians and you have to earn your way by working in the owner's sawmill for slave labor wages and church attendance is forced on you and the minimum commitment is 8 months I think. It sounds pretty unpleasant to me. I can't remember the name of it.

Instead of wasting your time looking for a free place to live because there is no such thing, there are plenty of cheap halfway houses in Florida you could easily pay for with a decent job.

Honestly OP, 9/10 these programs in the US are going to do as much harm as good. Most sober livings in most of the country as pretty bad, others little more than a place to stay - which if more were like that it would be a huge improvement. Very few free programs in the US. Salvation Army has "free" treatment, but I would strongly suggest you don't try that unless you're truly, truly, truly desperate (like you'd have to be in a horrible place for SA to make sense). Similarly there are homeless shelters and missions in some major cities, but again they're a truly last resort.

Hopefully someone can chime in, but I'd try and make alternative plans.

I honestly only had one sober living facility that wasn't full of addicts that are actively using, drunks drinking on the stoop, and dealers hanging out just outside the door...and that was in syracuse. It was called Lincoln House. They kicked you out for two hot UA's...and if you got two infractions (late for curfew, didn't do chores, didn't attend nightly meeting in house etc). Basically they know those beds there are at a premium and they only wanted those that wanted to stay straight to be there.

I don't know what to tell you other than be very careful going to a mission. Thievery is rampant, and there are lots of weird shit that happens there..(I had a guy stand up in the middle of the dorm and just start pissing on everyone all the while laughing maniacally until a few of us got up and beat him up and threw him out the door)

Please PM me stayclean. I am at a sober living livin' facility in Daytona beach Florida. It has totally changed my life. Daytona is like one sober living community. I know all the sober houses here and it is a real tight community. The place I am at has the highest sucess rate in the state of Florida it has changed my life. The best part is that they give you 3 weeks to find a job... Often even longer. It is 150 a week. I know people that owe 1000-1500. I can't recomend it enough. I would love to telk you about the place but I hate trying to peck out a response on my phone. Please don't ignore this post. You won't regret contacting me I guarantee it :)

Thanks for responses, gave me a lot to think about. Im still sober, plan on staying that way. Florida does sound nice...

Update*in daytona beach. sober 3 months, got a steady job, new friends, happy, debilitating depression is gone. And my roomates is Somni, he sleeps with teddy bear and sucks his thumb. =p

Yeh worked well I just got 6 months clean. Having hard time getting on my feet financially still. But I'm sober. Not sure of my next move.

Are there any organizations which give aren't run by fundamental christians and do a jober job at housing people wanting to stay sober and which you could sponsor from a different country?

It truly does feel bad that in the States things are that way as I know that if anyone here shows in example to a hospital and says that he is homeless he will be provided a bed until they can get place in a proper halfway housing or an apartment paid by county if he doesn't need any support other than housing.

There are some decent sober living facilities in Wilmington, NC. There are quite a few of them and they range in price. There were several people who were in rehab with me at Wilmington Treatment Center who were transitioning to some when they got out of rehab. It seems like the average cost was around $400 a month, and I believe some would give you the first month to get a job and get set up. I've never lived in one but several of my sober friends have lived in the ones down here and had positive experiences. Most of them require that you work, you have a curfew, there is mandatory drug testing, and you have to help with maintaining the house - cleaning etc. I'm not certain if food is included, and there are varying rules regarding going to meeting etc. Wilmington is right on the coast of eastern NC, and the whole town is on the beach so you're never far from the ocean. There is also a decent 4 year University here. There is a lot of diversity and a lot of opportunity here.

God I miss Wilmington..
I have been into all the half way houses there.
Coastal Horizons and PORT offer free half way housing if you attend IOP.
