So could LSD help me?

I've been interested in LSD for a long time now, more so than any other drug. I have read stories and heard from a few people (In real life) about how mind blowing a drug it is, and how it can just completely change ones outlook on life and really open your mind to all sorts of things.

I'm interested so much in LSD because I want to experience this and also because I think it could help me. To put it simply, I have a lot of self image problems in my life, not just about how I look, but also caring about how others perceive me a lot, as well as various related problems which i'm not going to go into.

I have come out of a huge, crushing depression recently and though I'm through the worst of everything, I still have a lot of lingering problems and as a result I haven't been able to connect to another person for a long time.

Basically from what I've read, I think LSD could help me out here, possibly by destroying these barriers I put up to 'protect' myself. Maybe it's a long shot, maybe it's just wishful thinking but I really do think it could help.

I've told all this to my family recently and they think i'm nuts, and that it will make things worse for me, especially as I have a 'predisposition to depression/mental illness' as they like to put it.

I hate to get all melodramatic here and I'm certainly not looking for sympathy. I would just like to know whether or not anyone thinks It would be beneficial for me to use LSD. (whether now, or at a later stage in life).

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

the myth about depression and psychedelics is kind of wrong, there were a few threads about it here. my first shroom trip happened when i was depressed, and it opened my eyes to the beauty of the world. if youve never tripped before, then lsd can be an extremely overwhelming first trip, but you should be fine as long as you have an experienced sitter, aim for 200-300ug. but the most important part is your mindset going into the trip. have the desire to really change something about yourself

Thanks man, that is good to hear, I'll go find those threads. (did you mean they were on this section of the forum?)

Also with the whole trip sitter thing, I know it's probably wise. But there isn't a single person in my life that I would be comfortable tripping with/around other than some members of my family, and they would never act as sitters. I'm fairly introverted and much prefer to be by myself most of the time as well, especially for (possibly) profound experiences like this.

Do you think it really would be a problem doing it by myself? I have experience with other similar (though i know similar is a long shot) drugs like DXM and marijuana.

Yes, psychs can help, but be prepared. I would recommend starting on a low to medium dose of mushrooms, in a relaxed space. Take mushrooms in a controlled environment with someone you trust. Close your eyes, and journey inward. That is when it is most rewarding. You may fight your demons, you may talk to god, or you may laugh your ass off; either way, you will not forget it.

And yes, mushrooms helped me with depression, and the effects lasted for a couple of months. You may have to repeat the session. But, please be careful. It's not all rainbows and unicorns. Psilocybin can be a lot more emotionally disruptive than LSD. But at the same time, that's why I think it is more useful. Do your research and proceed with caution.

Also, look into therapy or other tools in conjunction. Psychs are no magic pill, just another piece of the toolbox. Best of luck OP.

Sounds like you have a positive attitude about it, and that's good. You can expect to trip and come out of it feeling better, with just one caveat: Don't expect it to solve any specific problems you have, like "'destroying barriers."

Thanks for the advice Cathode,
also what do you mean when you say psilocybin can be more emotionally disruptive than LSD? In what way?

most people find psilocybin, or shrooms, much more emotional than lsd, and find lsd much more intellectual than shrooms. lsd is a high energy trip, shrooms are lazy. and yeah, i think it was this forum, or maybe drugs in the media

I think there is no question as to whether LSD could help you - it certainly has great healing potential. However, it cannot be guaranteed that you will be helped.

Try a low dose -- you've got nothing to lose. Just make sure it's real LSD. There's been a lot of NBOMe phens being passed as LSD lately, and I would not recommend an NBOMe for your purposes.

Asking something like that is really pointless...LSD can help you as much as it can send you into depression. Psychedelic drugs can be that thing that someone needs in their life at that exact moment to help them through things. But at the same time, one of my best friends took mushrooms this spring and that set her bi-polarism off and she became manic for the next 3 months. I don't want to scare you but I don't want to edge you onto trying them. When you feel that you are ready and want to take LSD for the experience, do it. Don't expect anything from it though.

I think most psychedelic-related disasters come from hasty trippers, who take large doses without experimenting with low doses first, because they are anxious to have a big, strong trip RIGHT NOW.

Also, I would say, you're ready once you feel ready on an emotional level. You can't logically determine when you're ready or not. It's like being hungry and ready for a meal - you don't have to think about it. You just know.

It all depends on the kind of person you are sausage. I first got into psychedelics after the death of a loved one and finding nothing else helped. Mushrooms were a miracle - tremendous help to depression. I think psilocybin (more than LSD) has long term anti-depressant effects.

But they arn't some magic bullet - you don't take them once and then you're happy for evermore. They're an enjoyable, positive experience and I think they do have a long-term anti-depressant effect on the brain when used regularly, far more effective than any bullshit SSRI that's for sure. John Lennon once said "The trip is the trip, what you do with it afterwards is what you do with it afterwards". Life is hard and it's a lot more complicated than just dropping mushrooms and finding eternal happiness - mushrooms are good, very good but they don't quite give you eternal happiness. Sooner or later you have to get up at 5am in the morning and go to work in the fucking rain.

But yeah - mushrooms are the ones I'd recomend even more than LSD - lot more physically enjoyable and you can get a good nights sleep rather than being awake for 20 hours on LSD.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I appreciate it.

I've decided I might just wait a while before I go ahead and drop some LSD/mushrooms. I still plan to take them eventually, that is a given, just not yet. If i decide to take it now, my first experience will have to be spent quietly in my room, by myself (I still live with my parents as I am only 18 ) at night so that I don't alert my parents. That just seems like a waste of a first time.

Plus I think I want to trip with a good, like-minded friend the first time, but as I have no friends that I feel truly close to currently I can't do this either.

Using psychs for depression... I think it works best if you have someone with you who you can talk with before, during, and after the trip.

Low to medium doses only, especially for a first timer. If you already have depression then a high dose could bring up some difficult feelings or imagery.

In my experience, LSD worked much better for depression than mushrooms did. Neurologically speaking, LSD is more apt to break prior associations, deconstruct long-held patterns, and increase novelty. In other words, it's good at breaking down internal blocks while increasing imaginative powers for problem solving.

Mushrooms, from what I've learned, decrease cerebro-vascular flow which might have an effect on the brain's ability to filter. The reduction in flow happens mainly in the areas of the brain that govern your sense of individuality, which in turn brings you into a state of Oneness. I personally find this Oneness very loving and supportive, which can be a great experience, but it doesn't have the same disassociative value as shrooms.

Anyway... I think you're on the right track, just go about it wisely.

Tripping alone in your room on a small to medium dose can be a huge breakthrough. Get some relaxing music, shrooms are what really got me into pink floyd, and relax out into the experience. I love tripping by myself, you can focus on yourself more, although tripping with others is great - although a nice solo trip is a good way to get a grasp of it. Definitely get some relaxing music you can drift away with.

So you think tripping by yourself is the best way to go, even the first time? I know that when I smoke marijuana, I much prefer to do it by myself and just listen to music and think about things. Maybe LSD/shrooms would be the same.

Also Pink Floyd is easily my favorite band, fine music taste man!
