Ok here is my first stab at poetry since about 4th grade. It's in haiku form as inspired by the thread in social...comments and criticism welcome. Enjoy!
Peace and much love

...
Your love is so grand
But it is misdirected
You need me not her
She is so distant
That smile is so translucent
I am what is real
But you can't see that
Your eyes draped with dark curtains
Veiled and unwilling
To see what could be
The future is a long trip
Her baggage heavy
Soon you will realize
And I will sit cross-legged
In this waiting room
Unsure of how long
I have a book to write poems
To keep my thoughts straight
I'll record my love
That's been in me for so long
And when it's my turn
Pages will be yours
I will part those dark curtains
We will love as one
So until that day
This book's what keeps me alive
Dreams of tomorrow
Dancing in my head
Manifesting on paper
Smeared with tears of hope
Companions always
We'll still lay never to touch
So close so distant
To have a small piece
Beats being empty-handed
My hands are open
Your eyes will see this
Maybe later than sooner
Surging confidence
And you will realize
That my journey was arduous
My feelings concrete

Your love is so grand
But it is misdirected
You need me not her
She is so distant
That smile is so translucent
I am what is real
But you can't see that
Your eyes draped with dark curtains
Veiled and unwilling
Wow!! That blew me away because I have had that feeling for a very long time. He has just now realized it, but it is too late for us. Good luck to you. I hope you get it for the both of us!!
