the boughs of the evergreens outside my window humbly give way to the weight of fresh snow. crystal, sparkling white snow - the kind of snow that comes only in february when it might just be starting to show signs of spring's arrival. not that the grass will literally poke through tomorrow, but that the sun might decide to show a wink of its face. moreso in life than the sky.
i lay on my back, bundled up in 2 pairs of socks, boots, long underwear, sweat pants over my jeans, a tank top, a short-sleeved shirt, a long-sleeved shirt, a hoodie, my snowboarding jacket, a scarf, hat, and mittens (after all, 20 degrees is chilly for a native atlantan), watching the snow fall heavily through the sky. it tumbles past the street lamp yet lands smoothly on the roof of my car. every tiny flake that plumets through the glare of the lamp scribbles in the air. some scratch L's and I's, while other's draw O's and figures not even in our alphabet.
you know, snowflakes are a lot like people.
we fall through life like a thunderbolt, each headed on our own separate paths. we ignore the light that is provided for us, be it by friends or relatives or other unknown sources, because we are wrapped up in following our path - for you never know when it might change without you noticing. we do things we are proud of, and we do things that make us think "what in the world was i thinking?" and yet, somehow or another, when it seems we are about to come crashing to our end, we always manage to land with the silent pit-pats of puppy feet through the snow.
and don't they say that no two snowflakes are alike?
so don't worry. somehow or another, you will find your snowy landing pad. just remember that while you are looking for it, pay attention to the light from the street lamp on your way.
i smile and stick my tongue out to catch a snowflake - just for old-time's sake. i go inside to shed my layers, make myself a nice cup of tea, and sit by my window... hopefully i fall asleep watching the snow fall.

All at once snowy and chilly, yet warm and fuzzy... stir me up some hot chocolate.

i so needed this right now. thank you for being one of the few things tonight that have brought a smile to my face. :)
