I was just curious what kind of illnesses a person can contract from passing a joint/pipe in a group of people. Should you be concerned about anything if someone looks sketchy?

aside from someone with herpes, suck it up. your smoking weed anyway. and if your that concerned about getting someones illness then don't smoke with them. or just smoke personal j's to the face.

Well sometimes your at a concert or something and some random doobie is going around and you usually hit it of course.

Well I would like to know what risks this entails so maybe I won't do it in the future if I could get some disease I don't know much about. Do you know of anyone getting herpes after a smoking in a group? Would the J have to touch a sore or does it lay latent?

basically any disease that can be spread through saliva could potentially be spread through smoking. just know who you smoke with ;)

ahhhhhh, true. i don't personally know of anyone getting herpes from smoking a jay, then again i don't know anyone with herpes. but if it were to touch an open sore its highly likely that you would contract it. so smoking with someone with an open sore is definitely a no-no. and its less likely that you get herpes from someone while it isn't flaring up, but its still possible. granted if its not flaring up then you really don't know if they have the disease. if it worries you that much i'd recommend not hitting the community j at concert. another disease you would want to be weary of is mono, transferred through saliva and it has an incubation period of about a month with no symptoms.

Anything transferable through salia, such as herpes, mono, etc, but the most likely illness you'd get would just be a common cold or flu.

herpes can only be contracted by skin to skin contact because it is a virus and cannot live outside the body... maybe if you touched the j to the herpes sore then to your mouth really quickly you might get it but you'd really have to try lol ......i'd prolly stay away from smoking with people who you know are really sick if your worried about it...

I'll generally refuse to share a joint with someone who has a cold. I don't think that's unreasonable.

If it concerns you that much, just don't touch your mouth to any joints being passed around (you can always get a hit just inhaling really close to the tip) and run a lighter over the mouthpiece of a bowl before you hit it.

usually just cold's and such aha.
But just put the lighter on the pipe's mouthpiece for like a second to burn all the germs off

My friend had a horrible sore throat once, but we smoked from the same pipe anyway.
He passed the lighter over the mouthpiece after every hit, but he forgot one time...
Two days later, I came down with a horrible sore throat.
It was so bad that I can't describe the pain to you.
I had a 6-week vacation planned beginning a few days later, but my wife caught the sore throat, and we both were in serious pain for a week or more. Then, it developed into different symptoms.
We could not possible leave for vacation.
Finally, after 4 weeks had passed, and we were still sick as shit, we decided that we simply had to leave.
We drove 16 hours to get to my parents' house for Christmas.
A few days later, both my parents came down with a horrible sore throat.
They were still sick 4 weeks later when I talked to them, though they were beginning to recover.

That was the nastiest cold I have ever experienced.
And passing it on to my wife and parents was painful...

Next time, I will double-check by passing the lighter over the mouthpiece myself, I guess...

this was very stupid of me but I smoked with my friend who had strep, a couple bowls.

Didn't get sick though, strangely I rarely do.
