I'm only familiar with UK heroin freebase so I'm never entirely sure about other forums of heroin.. but your best bet by far is to chase it on foil. You need a rectange of foil, then some more foil wrapped around a pen to make a tube (or some other sort of tube.. but if you make it from foil, you can smoke the residue that collects on it afterwards).
Make a groove down one side of the foil for the heroin to run down (optional but makes things easier at first...)
Put the heroin in the corner of the foil in the groove, heat from below with a lighter (enough to melt it but not to frazzle it - takes some practice) so it forms a blob and sticks to the foil. Tilt the foil so the heroin runs down one side, hold it with one hand and the lighter in the other, and move the lighter so it follows the heroin (or keep the lighter still and move the foil, whatever works best). Follow the blob of heroin with your tube just above and behind it, and inhale the vapour. It is tricky to get the technique right - best to have someone show you if poss...
Once you have run it down one side, rotate the foil and run it down the next.. you can run it where you like but try not to run over old tracks as this tends to make the heroin catch and burn. You can pick the blob up and move it to a new bit of foil too when you need to.
Practice makes perfect!!
Smoking it like this is relatively safe as it hits you pretty quickly so you can titrate your dose, but go steady if you are not used to it and be careful not to mix it with other downers.
