So while going through my closet i came across a lil weed that i remember being a really good high. I specifically remember the baggy so decided to pack a bowl of todays gift. When i looked at the weed again it was now all dry and brown, when it used to be fluffy green and moist. After smoking it i didn't get as nearly high as i would have thought, which got me to thinking. I remember it being some kush, but now it felt like chronic or even less grade. So i know the weight will deplete because of the water evaporation, but i didn't think the grade would decrease. Why is that? also im smoking just as much now as i was before.

maybe it got burnt? I've smoked high grade nugget that was probably 2 years old and it was fine. Tasted like shit, and turned into ash, but it got me just as high, if not more so.

Weed doesn't keep unless you store it properly. Stored in a Kilner jar (with the rubber seal like on a Grolsch beer), it will keep for years (up to a decade). Long term it should be sealed in a vacuum sealed container, preferably in the fridge.

I found a dime a year ago that was stored in my sock drawer for a really long time. I can't recall exactly how long it was but it definitely looked the way you described it and the only difference was that it was harsher.

It was in the back of a plastic drawer in a baggie. Didn't check to see if it was airtight :/ So it doesn't lose it's potency even if stored wrong? @chainer i never thought weed could burn cus of the sun lolol

^ you'd know it if you grew :P I can imagine someone leaving a bag out in a car for a year without realizing it, and finding it brown. adding humidity beads would only do so much, it'd be ruined at that point.

I do grow, indoor closet. I've just never had enough I guess. I get if it was left in a car for a year, but in the back of a drawer what chemical changes occur? tried searching about this just now and didn't really find much :/

Oxidation amongst other processes. If you remove the air with vacuum sealing this isn't really much of an issue. Keeping it in a cool, dark environment also helps to extend the best before date consideration. If you just leave it in a Kilner jar without removing the air in a drawer it will probably only last up to 3 years max in most cases, so investing in a vacuum pump is wise.
