Smoking changes brain the same way as drugs: study

I smoked approximately fifteen or so cartons in the year and a half I smoked before I quit a year and a half ago. Do I have the same level of damage as somebody who's currently smoking and on his fifteenth carton? What somebody who's smoked two cartons? Or two hundred cartons? How's that work?

No, it didn't say that in the article. I'd assume that the more someone smokes, the bigger the change.

Also, I'm not sure wether the amount of time is as important, they are talking about permanent changes, so abstaining for x years won't change those particular permanent changes.

i just sent this article and the quote "Cigarettes kill more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs combined." made by the American Cancer Society in an email to my extremely anti-drug BF.

i wonder what he'll say to this...

Well, does he smoke then ?

i want to know if this issue is limited to tobacco in general or whether its related to all the additives they put into normal cigarettes....

ALL drugs, when used responsibly, are safer than alcohol (or nicotene...that shit is extremely potent and can flat out kill you dead at obscenely small dosage ranges).

Good point. I'm no longer allowing alcohol in my house. Datura only policy.

The Truth

Look, this really isnt anything new.
To educate;
THIQ (tetrahydro-isoquinolone) Now there is alot of talk about this recently, alot of false reports and such. Whats true is this is created in the brain, but not just in addicts. Its created in everyone, with or without a vice. If you look at a cute picture(puppies), have sex, shoot herion, coca, even drink alcohol (though they claim only in hardline alcoholics this isnt true, it is disproportionately elevated in alcoholics), even if you shoke a J. It makes you feel "in control" and makes you "want more"

Case in point; have you ever known anybody who drinks 1-2 beer and says "Im fine to drive" 3nd Beer says "I'll be Ok" 4-5 beer says "I probably shouldnt drive" but by beer 8-10 Thinks they are completely fine to go ahead and do as they please ( i guess this applies to more than driving drunk) WELL if you have then its because the THIQ became elevated and they felt like they were "In Control" enough to do as they pleased, and not even a thought of what could happen.(Not that you should ever drive drunk)

Anyways, ther isnt much avoiding it, this is a nature part of our brain that is responsible for much of who we are (personality for one) however, there are drugs out there (that the US gov. chooses not to use) that are basically wonder cures for addiction.

i am a constant smoker of cigarettes and weed. i have noticed a great impact on my studies and my ability to comprehend information. but i highly doubt that nicotine is classified as a "highly addictive" drug, the only people who smoke cigarettes are people who are midily depressed and really do not like their lives. so in concluision cigarettes are not as addictive as herione and cocain.

That's crap.

Firstly, I'm a guy with a great life, in great shape, and am happy most of the time. I smoke cigarettes. I enjoy the physical sensation of smoking, if I ever get to the point where I hate myself every time I light a smoke, quitting will be easy, I've even taken precautions (i.e: Quitting for 3-5 days at the beginning of every month).

Secondly, I've known a lot of guys who kicked H and coke, even meth, but very, very, very few of them actually quit smoking cigarettes.
