Smoking cannabis - damage control

I enjoy cannabis the most when alone. For this reason I approach smoking minimalistically. A dugout and small quartz 'one hitter' allow greater concealment, flexibility, and conservation. I've grown quite fond of the duo.

However; the short pipe is without filter, the smoke is hot, and butane omnipresent. I take great enjoyment in physical exercise and sport, but have noticed a small but bothersome shortness of breath. With my competitive nature, this is unacceptable.

Any tips of the trade to reduce the damaging effects of smoke on the lungs?

Yes, simply use a vaporizer. There are even high quality portable models available now.

Alternatively turn your weed into oil and use an oil dome with a bong. The oil vaporizes in much the same way but because it's more potent you consume far less for the same effect.

You could always eat edibles but that might not be for you.

edit: did you really mean say butane is omnipresent?

I dono man, keep smoking out of different pipes, you'll find one where you don't have to keep the butane flame on it so long that you taste it. You can also use wooden matches or a hemp wick occasionally. The one hitters always taste like metal and butane to me, a glass chillum tastes better. I don't know if your one hit is glass or not. A bigger chillum bowl lets you fire it up then toke on it like a joint. Good luck.
