Okay I got a huge fucking killler problem..... Long Story short only quiet place to sleep is in my house basement. Problem is there is exposed Fiber Glass Insulation down there and so much fucking dirt and dust or something Lethal that is making me cough and gag non-stop continuously. I have tried setting up a tent but that does not seem to be enough filtration. I have covered it in Blankets which seemed to work as a good filter but the weather is really hot and it just fills the tent with to much condensation and heat. Now I would move the fuck out of this hell hole but I am cursed by the Devil I guess and am completely out of fucking options. I am pissed off and going nutz from lack of sleep due to no solution to this problem I am going to die like this aren't I......

if sound is the issue forcing you into the basement

have you tried setting up a mattress (outside of the basement), and using earplugs?

I spent a bunch of money on an Oreck air purifier because my dad smokes so much. It was pretty useless but you could get one that's not so expensive. Do you have lots of noisy people in the house? You could use a fan to try and drown it out. I sleep better during the day because we have these disgusting tree frogs that screech all night here.

Um I use ear plugs and they help a lot but are not enough. The basement is not perfect either unless I make sure I fall asleep at night which just does not happen sometimes I end up dozing off in the day time after tossing and turning all night time and than my parents are upstairs eating or some moving chairs and my dad wears those big asss heavy steal toed boots. Right now I am only worried about the shit I am breathing downstairs since it is undeniably making me cough a concerning chronic way. I got a very thin like bed sheet over my tent door and thick blankets on top where the screens are for air lol. I do not know if that is enough but I KNOW FOR A FACT IT HELPS since I do not gag all night long when I got the Tent covered nicely like that..... Instead I literally just SWEAT myself the fuck awake shit is brutal most slow agonizing way to die.

Sleeping in a tent can't be very comfortable. I'd move my mattress down there or sofa.
Plus go with the air purifier if you have to sleep in the basement.

wonder if its possible to run a length of ducting from somewhere outside with a fan and ventilating your tent with positive pressure?
a bit like this...

or jury rigging something like it.

Some ideas for...

Exposed insulation: staple or tack butcher's paper or cut-up plastic grocery bags onto the wall studs/floor joists to prevent the glass fibers from getting into your breathing air.

Exposed dirt: get some plastic sheeting (visqueen; painter's plastic; large, cut-up garbage bags; etc.) to lay over the dirt, covering all exposed areas. Now find some cloth (old sewing cloth; canvas tarps; etc.) and lay it over the plastic.

I understand that there's a limit to how much you can modify the basement, but if your impact is minimal and can be reversed, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to implement some of my ideas. Many of the materials I mentioned can be retrieved from dumpsters, after all!

That's a great solution for airborne chokeables, bunnymunro. The product you linked is probably more expensive than it should be, though. A small (and cheap!) 12v fan/motor can be quietly run on little power (a generic AC adapter is sufficient), and ducting can be found in dumpsters or made at home (there is always a way).

I agree, the unit in the pic is probably intrinsically safe for explosive atmospheres etc, but I posted it to show an example of what I meant. I am sure with a bit of ingenuity and scavagery, you could construct something for next to nothing

Oh yeah, Thomas... If the basement is too large to easily cover all the fiberglass & dirt with plastic, then you can use the plastic sheeting to make it smaller. Just define how big you want your space, and use the sheeting for walls.

I lived in a fricken' crappy trailer in wintry conditions a few years back. This thing had one entire wall missing (ended up building it new one), with air leaks all over the place... it was horrible. So I got some visqueen sheeting (desirable because it's thick) and I made myself a house within a house. I just sealed off the entire living room (the only liveable area in that place) with the plastic sheeting over the new carpeting (freebie) I put in. Since the area was relatively small and did not encourage drafts, I stayed warm with just a tiny space heater.

Anything is possible! Don't let your circumstances bring you down, or keep you from improving your living conditions. You deserve as much comfort as the rest of us!

Or how about you just tell the people in your house to have some fucking respect and be quiet when you're trying to sleep.

Exposed fiber glass can cause emphysema over time as it destroys the alveoli of the lungs.

I agree with the above poster that the solution to this problem is to confront the source of the noise, instead of looking for ways to renovate a basement.

Failing that, you could try to buy a particle mask because that is the only guarantee that you aren't breathing that crap in. An air filter would work but if you're not able to move I'm assuming you can't afford something like that.

that fucking positive pressure thing is genius. I cant remember the formula for air exchange ideal for a mj growing room/tent/closet, but I imagine as long as theres enough clean air coming into a sleeping tent you have in your basement..............
