Sleeping Dog Lie.
8/4/04
Overwhelmed with disappointment and
frustration and I feel the rage but
have no place to let it out.
So many fingers pull my trigger
and I try to bite the bullet but
it backfires in my mouth.
It's a dog eat dog world, and
every dog here surely has his day.
Every man's his own best friend,
every bitch has right of way.
So much begging, barking and slobbering
among the domesticated, and I regret
to inform you I can't heel or roll over,
but I'm dog gone good at playing dead.
I bite my tounge once more, so high
off the sweet taste of my own blood.
I've walked and crawled in circles,
now it's getting darker and
there's no place to run.
Lost inside the labryth of my dark and
twisted, mangled mind as I'm
chasing hopes that are
mirages; as doves
turn into crows
that peck away
at my eyes.
And spare me your illusions, don't
pull another one out of your bag of lies.
I can't heel, roll over so I'll play dead:
just let this sleeping dog lie.
