L O V E L I F E
Bluelighter
Sitting on the E train.
Day job done; time to focus on editing The Jokes; aka, Preparation For
Magictime.
A very attractive young lady sitting across from me is reading The
Times, while intermittently, sneaking peaks at me, in order to
ascertain whether or not I've been sneaking peaks at her.
Which, admittedly, I have.
We're both caught - we smile at each other innocently and
simultaneously.
This would normally be a pleasant moment - one of the many pleasant
moments with which I've been blessed throughout this beautiful life.
But, all of a sudden, thoughts start to creep into my feeble mind.
"She probably didn't go to the magnet high school whose alumni
actually have the audacity to think that THEY were OUR rival."
"She almost definitely never heard of Olive's 1996 rendition of
'You're Not Alone."
"And, if, hypothetically, I got to know her, and if, hypothetically,
she complimented me on one of my math jokes, I might answer her:
"Thanks much for the kind words, <insert name>, but I must concede,
that that calculus joke I just told is derivative."
And there's a 94.351% chance that she'd have absolutely no idea what
the fuck I was talking about.
There will be many more E trains.
There will be many more smiling young ladies.
But for now, it's time to concentrate on The Jokes.
