They don't do Freecycle round my way anymore, it's Freeagle now, same thing different name I guess they gave the old one away ;)

When I finally gave in a few years back and brought a flat screen TV (as apposed to a fat screen as my daughter called the old one) I sold the old one on Ebay for pickup only and got £5 for it. It was a Panasonic 32" last of the CRTs, original price £950, you can barely give them away these days

do you think tvs will last much longer?
can barely think of a reason to own one

tv are more or less undiscernable from a large (pc) monitor... and they keep going for more functionality.

regarding OP, dont local papers have ads sections any more?

so when does something stop being a tv and becomes a pc? or a home theater as they like to be sold as? :P technology man... bring on the holodeck

Since the move to digital TV in many respects there is not difference between a monitor and a TV, in the UK most TVs still have a built in 'receiver' for our world beating FreeView service but this is somewhat of an anomaly.

That said I'm not convinced that the technical crossover means that much to most consumers, a 19" monitor is all you need for most PC applications where as watching video or playing games is better on a much larger screen, it's just packaging these days

FG how much have you got to spend? There are often local FB pages selling cheap tvs and some FB pages gifting them similar to aforementioned r freecycle (who also should have an FB page for your area code).

If you want to buy a new TV all major electrical places will/should deliver to your door..some even set it up. Argos? Most supermarkets..do Tesco deliver tv's think they do...

Hopefully if you find a decent one even if it is local on Ebay, could you not ask a family member with a car to pick it up for you?

And if you are buying new..wait for the Boxing day/Jan sales and haggle hard..<3 (you could do that on the phone though not ideal..there will always be discount to be had on an ex-display model or a return with some minor scratch etc.

Do you really need a telly? I rarely stick mine on..I watch nearly all televisual entertainment through my laptop these days..

I couldn´t watch TV from my laptop.
I guess I would miss the comfort of our living room, space etc..
But lots of young people do. And I´m amazed with that.. They adapt so well to everything new..

I think the word you're looking for is "convergence" here, and it's definitely not gonna end up with devices being called PCs. That's already an antiquated legacy term and there are probably kids nowadays who have never called anything a PC.

Back in the early 90s, we used to call our workplace green-screen terminals "screens", (e.g. "go and check the screen", "the screen says this or that"), and I suspect we'll go full circle on that and just start referring to our Black Mirrors as screens again. Their smart functionality and connectedness are already a given (e.g. in my brother's house, which is fucking mental btw. I'm pure jealous).

Our TV needs a Roku box (or whatever) to make it a Smart TV, and that's all I aspire to for now.
