Alright well to start off my membership here on bl, I'd like to talk about my Sinicuichi experience from a couple hours ago. I'm not usually much of a smokable herbs guy, but reports of this plant turning your vision yellow and altering sound had me interested

Overall the experience was short; I packed a small to medium sized bowl of dried Sinicuichi and sprinkled some Scullcap on top to ease the harsh smoke and yummify the taste ;). I took 5 hits before the herbs were all evaporated away, and within a minute of finishing the bowl, visual distortions came into play. I saw little, random, very short lived sparkles all over my field of vision. They almost lookes like very small worms that were glistening in the light, and this had me totally surprised. They flew around for a bit, probably 30 seconds, and then it was over. No muscle pain lingering for days, no sound distortion, just my little shiny worm friends :D

So I'd have to say it was a success! Prior to smoking the sun-opener, I hadn't read the reports of sore muscles so I had a pretty happy and eager mindset prior to the trip, and in the end am very happy to have tried it, and will likely try again. =D

Not to ask sources, but did you grow this/aquire it from a friend who did or did you buy it as an herb from a shop

That doesn't sounds half bad. Last time I smoked Sinicuichi I rolled a joint and I didn't find it a pleasureable experience.

Glad it worked for you, tho %)

it doesn't sound like anything at all. I smoked this shit b4, i smoked the extract too. whatever it was was so barely noticable it wasn't worth the smoke inhalation. Maybe it was just me but it wasnt worth it(even if it was free)

Is the yellowing of the vision like with mushrooms(if youve experienced this) where your vision field looks almost an orange tinge especially at night around lights.

My thoughts exactly. The only mildly interesting visual, auditory, and mental effects were not worth the night fever, night sweats, and muscle pains, for me at least.

Yeah I was pretty surprised I didn't experience any muscle pain, but as for the yellowing it didn't happen to me :/ it was just the little sparkles for a few seconds and it was over.

I'm glad you didn't experience the god-awful muscle pain... consider yourself very lucky. :) I am probably the one who wrote the report you read about muscle pain... I was in the worst pain of my life for 2 days. God, it was horrible. And my sense of hearing wasn't right for 5 days.

I think the side effects probably come into play by consuming it orally without letting it ferment. I smoked some once and didn't get many effects, but also no side effects. Traditional use of the plant calls for making a tea from it and then letting it sit in the sun for a day (or maybe 2? I can't recall anymore) to allow sun fermentation. I believe that's why another name for it is the "sun-opener". It stands to reason that fermentation and/or prolonged exposure to sunlight could break down the substance(s) that cause side effects, or convert them to something that gives the majority of the positive effects.

Ah so you make a tea and let it sit out? Thanks for that heads up! Though I'm going to limit my exposure to his plant; I dont want to jinx myself into the terrible side effects after all... ;)

Do people really get muscle pains from smoking it? I've smoked it 1000s of times and never get any muscle pains... not once....sometimes I wonder if all the muscle pain reports are psychosomatic in nature, at least for the smoked route of administration.

I grow my own now and it is even better than the material found online. It has buzz like cannabis (and potentiates cannabis really well) but less potent, but definitely, and enjoyably there. I feel bad for all the people whom this plant apparently doesn't work or else causes muscle pain cause this is one of my favorite plants to work with.

A good 20x of it actually reminds me very much of a light dose of DPT freebase smoked. All in all, I think this plant, like many of the more subtle energies created by using plants like this, lily, lotus, dagga, calamus, kava etc, get passed over by people who fail to allow themselves to open up to the subtle realms of being affected by some of these plants. But whatever, it's not my loss...it's just a trend I'm noticing in forums lately...I'm glad the OP enjoyed it tho! Glad to have some company :)

^^ Maybe you're not aiming this towards me, but no, I didn't get muscle pains from smoking it. I'm not sure I've ever read a report of muscle pains from smoking it. But I can promise you that the muscle pain was nothing resembling psychosomatic when I drank the unfermented tea. It was the worst pain I have ever felt, hands down. I felt like a decrepit old man... to shift my legs off the bed was enough to make tears spring out of my eyes and actually getting down made me literally cry. I was bawling by the time I dragged myself on my stomach to the bathroom, 15 feet away, and it took me at least 5 minutes to do. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

OK, I guess I misread it (and never read the other report either). Thanks for the clarification on your part. I've read it plenty of times though where people claim to have muscle cramps from smoking it, and I'm always surprised.

My own personal theory as to why it is called the sun opener is the effect it seems to have on me while on some other substance, it seems to breath light into the experience always, opening up the psycho-sacred space already underway with some substance, say perhaps marijuana or perhaps mushrooms, 2 substances I have readily noticed this effect (but it work with a number of other psychoactives as well I am sure), of opening a sense of inner light on the perceptual mind space, shedding light onto the inner vision , making it more clear and discernible to observe. It was harder for me to notice this effect initially on its own, but in combination with other substances with which I was already decently quite familiar with the effect of expanding the clarity to my inner vision became more apparent.

I don't have much fact gathered to support this, but one thing I have wondered as a result of my own personal experience with the plant, as well as all the non effect to train wreck experiences from drinking the "fermented" water extract, is whether the information telling us how hemia salicifolia was originally used is perhaps faulty...like I said tho, I have never delved too deep into the literature to find out yet. It just seems to me that with the collection of undesirable experiences from drinking it, as opposed to my own (and some others who I think spent some real time and not just a sample baggie's worth of time working with this plant) just make it seem obvious that the plant was smoked, or at least not prepared in fermentation manner people seem to be replicating...I guess I will have to look into it to answer my own question, but if the proof is in the pudding as they say, then I just can't see the people of culture's past being any dumber than us and not figuring that out...I mean if similar cultures where able to figure out to take dmt containing plants with and maoi containing plants, I'm sure they were able to figure out best ROA's of things, at least in terms of smoking vs.oral consumption...
