Simple Coke Purification Question

Is it possible to separate coke hcl from a non-water soluble cut by simply diluting the cut coke in some cold water, filtering the cut off, then leaving the solution somewhere warm to recrystallise? Does it always recrystallise as coke hcl? Can you boil the water off to speed up the recrystallisation? If it really is that easy then why doesn't everyone do it?

How do you know the cut is not water soluble?
To answer your question, yes this would work. Use distilled water. Boiling the water off would speed up the process, but would also increse the chances of screwing up the coke.
However, I doubt that cutting agents aren't water soluble. To really separate this, you'd have to do an acid/base extraction which isn't terribly complicated, but is beyond most people's abilities.
 
Hmm I ask because the coke currently going around locally is cut with a white odourless tasteless white substance that does not dissolve in water below about 60C, then dissolves completely above about 60C, then recrystallises as the water cools down again. I guess the cut is about 50% so an easy method of removing it would be great. When you say boiling the water may damage the coke, in what way would overheating it damage it and what would the product be?

It'll work fine. Coke will dissolve in cold water so you dont even have to use room temp water. Using distilled water isnt really necassary for something like this.
Just dissolve the coke in cold water. Filter it thru wet coffee filters. Put the liquid in a pyrex baking dish. Stick it in the oven on low heat with the door open and wait for it to evaporate.

Ya, try Snitch's method it should work for you. It is also fairly easy. I personally prefer working with distilled water. But it should work none the less...
