I have recently started thinking about some of the side effects caused by crystal meth. I have a few questions about some side effects I have experienced that I would like to know more about.
I'll ask about this first because it is currently a problem. If you can help at all please let me know.
I have been injecting meth for over a year. My use has been somewhat sporadic. I have been on SSRIs for a number of years for depression.
When I began using meth I was prescribed celexa, though I hadn't taken it in some time.
I have recently began using again but now have been prescribed lexapro 20mg for three months. I have noticed a few things.
The biggest thing I've noticed is I am able to stay awake much longer. After one use, say at 8 pm on a Monday, in the past I would have Definatley been asleep by Tuesday night. Now however I am almost always still awake far into Wednesday morning. I haven't been high for many hours, but I'm still not coming down. Almost in a meth limbo. Could my medication cause this to happen? If so what are some other common interactions between meth and SSRIs?
One more question. I'm sure some of you are familiar with meth addiction. For me, when I am getting clean the absolute worst thing for me is the deep depression.
I have seen numerous times where people recommend an SSRI or other anti depressant to aid this depression claiming it helps.
My question is since I am already on lexapro is there anything that would aid me? Or am I just fucked? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure SSRI's increase some of the effects of amphetamines but other than that I know for sure that meth effects serotonin levels so that with an SSRI (which obviously effects serotonin levels) would probably lead to some side effects.

I'm not positive that's forsure what's causing it but it could be a factor

SSRI's will block the serotonergic actions of amphetamines. In terms of amphetamine, it will feel the same as it does not act much on serotonin at all, but on meth it will dull the serotonergic effects and meth does release serotonin to a point however meth is primailry dopamine based.

The trade off is atleast you can prevent serotoninergic neurotoxicity with the use of an SSRI.

MDMA however, and SSRI will block the effects completely.

The insomnia is 100% methamphetamine related.

It's not unheard of for people to stay up 1, 2, 3, .... 7, 8 ... 11, 12, 13... days etc without sleep.

That's without SSRI's.

If anything, the SSRI's might be reducing the extent of meth-induced insomnia; not exacerbating it IMO. Then again, it could be "worsening" it for you to go from 2/3rds of a day awake to 2 days awake (drugs effect us all uniquely).

My $ is on the bet that it's all meth-induced insomnia though.
