As your an Aussie, I'd exclude Kratom, as Australia is one of the few countries in which it is illegal. Would be hard to get on the black market as opiate dealers would concentrate on selling the big guys such as Heroin and Oxy.

Half yearly abstinence is probably helpful, particularly if you get fond of a certain substance. For most of the people here who are addicted it usually starts out as once a month or week, then the addictive mind set says "why not a session mid week, that won't hurt" You can get off the bandwagon now, but chances are you won't want too. Useage escalates to every other day then daily. Your dependent now! You'll want to get off the bandwagon now but can't!

Yeah, I have seen the weekend warrior thing in my friends with certain substances too..
That's exactly why I want to keep it as a bi-yearly thing, at most, because I don't need an addiction this early in the peace lol.

Yes GHB/GBL doesn't have a very good LD50 in terms of overdose, but any responsible user will know this and be very sure of what they are doing. I only mention it as its the only drug I find comparable to alcohol.

In terms of drug use at 17, to be frank, as long as you keep use very occasional you will be ok with most drugs you try. You could try MDMA a few times and likely be fine, you could try acid, shrooms, cannabis, benzos, etc, just make sure its only a few times a year. Its when you get hooked into frquent use of a drug at your age that you should be concerned about long term effects.

We don't allow "What should I take" threads here, sorry.

My advice: avoid cocaine (it's usually cut up garbage), avoid amphetamines (speed, meth - they are too powerful for most people to use responsibly), and avoid benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, Ambien etc - they are dangerous if you develop a dependence.)

If you enjoy the strange bodily sensations of alcohol, try ketamine, perhaps. LSD and MDMA are also good if you do your research. But I agree with the others who say "stay sober" - if you are just looking for escape you should stick with something safe like marijuana or social activity. And if you do choose a chemical to relax with, don't over do it.
