So I live in Pennsylvania surrounded by relatively dense forrests. I remember seeing mushrooms in the woods and in my yard but im pretty sure theyre regular poisonous mushrooms. I was wondering if its possible for psychedelic mushrooms to be found in Pennsylvania growing in the wild and how common they are.

I'm new to this website and have never posted this is my first post but hear it goes...
I'm not sure the specific mushrooms that grow in your area I know you might be able to find some information on erwoid but you could try hunting for the fly agaric mushrooms I'm sure it grows worldwide, it normally grows in birch and pine forest do some research before you do anything and get a good mushroom identification book also remember mushrooms are living organisms so treat them with respect and not to over harvest them, they play an important role in the eco system, just do some research before you do anything and gain some knowledge on what your doing. Peace

They do grow in certain areas of PA; but I would advise you not to do this, and just get them another way.

Be very careful if you go hunting for wild mushrooms. Sometimes the ones that look like psychedelic ones or edible ones are actually poisonous and toxic, and you can die or fuck up your liver if you eat them.

I have friends in PA who do hunt for wild edible mushrooms that they eat; but not the psychedelic type; but these people are botanists, or work with wild life and know how to correctly identify them, and have been doing this for decades. Be safe.

I've gone hunting for them in various places but I never ate any wild mushrooms.

You definitely want to be safe, maybe just do the hunting and identification as a hobby and don't eat them. However, I think sometimes there's a bit of an over-dramatized reaction to hunting mushrooms, psychedelic or otherwise.

But, most psilocybin mushrooms are, arguably, in the hardest class of mushrooms to identify: the so called LBMs (little brown mushrooms). So, it is risky. You'll atleast have to learn to take spore prints and get a book with a dichotomous key. Maybe a microscope.

No idea what little brown mushies are but I'd head to shroomery they have expert mycologists and a section of threads dedicated to the hunt.

I too live in Pennsylvania. There are psychedelic mushrooms out there, but it depends greatly on which area you live in. Little brown mushrooms are a bad idea to ingest. All too often i have seen people gather them up from a field or a lawn and try making a stew or eating them raw. I personally have gotten sick by doing this 5 years ago or so. I was puking for 3 days straight. There are several psychedelic mushrooms that are identifiable. There are fly agarics (which like to live under pine trees) small laughing gyms (my favorite though rare), and several species of panaeolus (abundant though easily mistaken and are best steered clear of unless you have more experience with examining spores.) Oh and there are also lawn mushroom, some people swear by them, but i think they are gross because of how many you have to eat.
