Should you keep your pipes clean?

I prefer clean pipes/bowls over dirty ones, first of all... dirty bongs STINK! they need to be cleaned out to enjoy a nice smoke.

But with the resinated bowls, it seems a wee bit more efficient. Less unburned weed gets sucked down into the water.
 
methylated spirit is a very good solvent to clean your pipe with... just dip your pipe cleaner in the solvent and stick it through the mouth piece down the tube, looks good as you, make sure you wash the glass piece with water to get rid of any methylated spirit that could be left over.

Looks good as new, i clean my pipe when i notice resin getting warm and going into the back of my mouth, im just a lazy stoner=D
 
For me it personaly doesn't matter, i usually smoke from my bf's bowl witch has resin in it, we just throw out the cashed part and use the bowl over again.

Well, I'd just dump the resin personally, but I remember the times when I would smoke it when I had to... so here's a solution that splits down the middle. Just scrape all the resin out, and then clean it, saving the resin. Or, if it's not thick enough to scrape, then clean your pipe with isoproyl alcohol, and then evaporate the iso and scrape up the resin left behind, and save that.

Now you have a clean pipe and nasty-ass resin. Case closed.

Sadly, when you smoke schwag, yeah, it does. Well, it actually doesn't, but since you smoke schwag, you don't understand what extremely high is, so by your standards, resin does the job. I know this because I started on schwag, and we'd wait eagerly for the day we had enough resin to smoke that instead. Having long since moved to dank, I can certainly realize our silliness now.
 
I'd rather smoke stems than resin. And I haven't done either of those since I was a freshman in high school. I am not as obsessive about a clean pipe as you are but I clean all of my pipes every month. The less amount of time between cleaning sessions the easier it is to clean the pipe as well.

Resin is all around gross though. I don't want it on my clothes, in my lungs, or even in my pipes for long periods of time.
 
Think about a PHX bong. You pretty much have to clean those out every day or two with regular use. When I had one it was cleaned nearly every day to avoid a hard to clean build up of resin.
 
I clean my pipe regularly. Cleaner is better. Smoke particles can't get stuck to goo.

very true.

I made the mistake of leaving my illadelph for a little too long and now there are permanent stains on the inside of the perc. No amount of 420 solution, salt/iso, or burning hot water have been able to do the job :\

as for my dry piece, I'm not a stickler for cleaning it but when I start sucking in some random bits of ash/nugget then it's time for a rinse.

also, just a word of advice, if you clean your pipe/bong/watever, use pipe cleaners or qtips to get the intricate areas. toothbrush or similar can be abrasive and will eventually scratch your bowl so that bits of resin are more likely to get permanently stuck in there.

Na i like clean pipes, i wish i had the time and patience to clean my pipe thoroughly after each sesh but i dont, too lazy(especially when im stoned lol).

My pipe is cleaned generally though, i dont like to let it build up too much resin as it gets harder and harder to clean that way as it starts to REALLY stick..

Btw people, whats something i can buy thats cheap and i can just soak my glass pipe in? would zippo fluid work? i got some of that lieing around..
 
^ A bottle of isopropyl alcohol is like $1, big thing of salt--$1.

you can either soak your pipe in a bowl of iso, or pour some salt and alcohol in the pipe and shake it up. best method of cleaning a bowl I've found.

cleaning the pull bowls and stems of the bongs is the biggest pain in the ass. i never really attempt to get them "resin free" and looking brand new.. in fact i dont really know how that would be possible. i used a metal pokey(its a hard wire with a glass bead on one end), pipe cleaners made with plastic intertwined in the fuzz and even drinking straws all in the effort to keep the stems clear. ITS HARD!

can you ever get a funky pullbowl new again? what do you do, boil it? soak it?? (im thinking of trying the rubbing alcohol, hows that method go? just soak? thanks new shaman)

i have a glass pipe thats actually named "the Resinator" because she has a corked chamber for nugs in her to be resinated as you smoke. surprisingly, the weed catches most of the goo and she is still mostly clear in the stem.

i have a very thin delicate "hobbit-style" glass sherlock that i desperately would like to keep in pristeen condition. the pipecleaners i have are too short to clean the long stem, even when linked together. im afraid any debris getting sucked through will settle and amass under the conical bowl where i cant get to it. :( this pipe is too delicate to shake 420solution through(the shaking required is the problem, not the grainyness) and just soaking wont alleviate the issue of impossible-to-pipeclean spots.

any suggestions?? stoner wisdom?

Use rubbing alcohol. Cheap and very effective.
 
Not to mention I hate the slippery mess of trying to pack a freshly cleaned bowl. You need a little resin in there, for grip.
 
thanks, ill go out and buy some tomorrow, my new glass bong could do with a cleaning. (btw you talking just regular table salt right?)
 
^ yep, I get the big blue cylinder of Morton's because it's there and cheap.

Just load up your bong with a pile of salt, you can be liberal with it no worries, then add in the rubbing alcohol...no need to use a half a bottle or anything (unless you have a huge bong) but have enough in there to get the salt moving around on the walls when you shake the shit out of it :D
 
haaha thats a really awesome method dude, never heard of it. I guess the salt acts as a grippy/abrasive material scratching away at the hardend resin while the alcohol.. does what ever it does.

Thanks! i was really not looking forward to having to clean my bong with 1000 cotten buds like i have been doing with my glass pipe :p
 
back when I used to smoke if I was smoking out of a glass/metal one hitter I would clean it farily often to get all of the residue out of it by letting it soak in rubbing alcohol and if it was metal I'd shove some q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol up in.

If I was smoking out of a color changing hand blown glass pipe I would clean it a few times a year with rubbing alcohol and salt in a ziplock bag. I never cleaned them that often since I like to watch the colors change. :)
