Should you keep your pipes clean?

I am a neat freak by nature, so I like to clean my glass pipe WELL after a session - as in, you cannot tell it has ever been used except for the fact that its color changing glass. However, my smoking buddy told me that its not good to keep a pipe so clean ... she tried to make a case that the resin is beneficial and should be saved for desperate times. Personally I hope I never get so desperate, but aside from that I just like smoking out of a clean pipe. The question here is, is it better to smoke out of a clean bowl or one covered with resin? Thanks!!
 
I would rather smoke out of a clean bowl, personally. A clean bowl definately hits better than one all encrusted with resin.

Scraping up resin is okay if you don't mind smoking that nasty stuff only to get high for fifteen minutes.
 
I'd much rather smoke out of a clean bowl, myself. You can actually enjoy the bud, as the taste is so much better in a clean pipe, then a resinated one.

It'd be some pretty desperate times for me to scrape a pipe and smoke resin, but that's just me. It's too much work for such a crappy high, the headache alone - in my opinion isn't worth it.

As for it being better, I don't know. I'd think it'd just be about preference, I couldn't see how it'd be beneficial, but what do I know..
 
I tend to find that lighter fluid (zippo) is great for cleaning out my bong. Make very sure that the liquid has evapourated before use though.. you don't want to inhale any of that nasty stuff. I'm told that there are ways of evapourating the runoff and producing "resin balls" which can then be smoked. Not something I've tried yet though...
 
the only advantage to having resin in your pipe is that it'll make the colors on the pipe stand out, and if you smoke resin then you have a resin supply. resin is pretty nasty though... i wont smoke it anymore :blech:

Or blow yourself up. Be careful, your talking about stuff that is designed to explode when it comes in contact with a flame.
 
I use pipe cleaners, 70% Rubbing alcohol and salt to clean my Spoon and salt water to clean my 1 foot glass ice-bong.
 
Well.....

.... I own a cheap glass pipe, 30$ in canada, I broke the bowl a bit so I have to put a screen in, and I found that if the pipe is completley clean it wont hold a screen as soon as you put it in something (pocket) the screen falls out(and thats a pain in the ass) however if there is an amount of resin in the bowl the screen gets a grip and wont fall out, so it is benificial in for me because its more functional this way.
 
most of the resin that gathers in the bowl seems to be layers of packed ash and grossness.
i always keep the bowl nice and clean, but i do allow the chamber, shaft etc to gather as much as is reasonable, or until i'm tired of what it looks like at that point in time.
 
I much prefer a clean bowl over a resinated one. But the fact of the matter is that me and my friends are lazy. We get around to it ever once and awhile. But after every time, damn, that is alot of work I would never do.
 
a lot of work to clean it after one session? hardly; just grab a rag or a sock or a shirt and wipe the bowl out, hopefully while it's still warm. it's once the layers start building up that it becomes messy and difficult to clean
 
^^^I assumed that he meant more than just the bowl, the whole pipe including the inside of it. And if you were going to get out pipe cleaners or what not to clean the entire pipe inside and out, it would take many minutes and it would not be easy.
 
I have my own piece, but overall 80% of the time i smoke out of my friends pipes / bongs and barely ever are they completely clean. I dont really mind a thin layer of resin surrounding the bowl. Seems like a pain cleaning your pipe every time you smoke, i really dont think it has too big of an impact
 
I hate smoking out of my friends nasty pipes. Almost each time we sit down for a session they have to stick paperclips and shit in their pipes to knock resin out just so it will hit decently.

I usualy clean mine after each session. I just set it under some running hot water and in 10 minutes it's spotless. It doesn't take much work and definitely makes smoker that much more enjoyable.

I guess potheads are lazy.

I think it's useless to clean the whole thing. no chance for the colours to truely come out.
i surely wasn't talking about cleaning the whole thing; i was stating what i prefer to do which is just wipe out the bowl to avoid the thick, gross ash build up.
 
I haven't needed to clean my bong yet... I usually smoke around .3 - .4g in a session, after which I immediately empty the water and give it a REALLY good rinse.

I do clean the downpipe and cone-piece regularly though (every 2g or so).
