Good day to you all. I've decided to sign up for to give and receive help, advice, a laugh, trip reports and general camaraderie. The fucking world is going astray and it's always good to feel some warmth, fellow feeling whatever. I've always managed to keep my family and employer in the dark. Masking it with a ostensible alcohol problem. However. like many divorced middle-aged men my booze problem has worsened. Unlike my partner I am retired and have obviously more time on my.hands. i'm in my late 50's. I think I should shut up before you fall asleep. One more thing though before these xanax kick in. I was a previous member but due to work didn't post much. I also can't remember my handle but I do remember two guys who helped me at the time : a.guy called Shambles and another I think was Stone Cold Roses. So hello you two and all those of the future. Peace

I have a similar situation to yours. I am 38 and medically retired from the military. I have lots of free time, I actually just bought a house two years ago so I honestly have a large list of things I need or should get done but I tend to start drinking pretty early, I really try though to at least make it afternoon before I start. I also use other drugs recreationally like some meth, various pills but my go to is always one form of alcohol or another. Just saw your post and thought I'd reply.

Hi there and welcome to the site,

I think there comes a point in your life when you have to accept who you are - if your used to taking drugs and like that escape then you can probably change your physical behavior but the craving will always be there. Once you can accept that you can work on it (if that is your choice). Just my opinion anyway.

Shambles is still doing well and you can find him over in EADD - so pop in and say hi, I'm sure he will be glad to hear from you.
