I want to do a psychology course and my enrolment day is tomorrow and just realised it costs nearly £2000 and that it is 4 days a week and I have a part time job and I don't really know how I would pay for it.

I was thinking of just taking a year off and just work for this year and do it next year? I mean I'm only 20, I still have plenny of time right (even though I wanna go to uni after) ?

What do you guys think?

I think that you could take a year/half year off and work (maybe even do a bit of upgrading if you need to) then after that you'd have, hopefully, some money saved up. If that course still interests you then by all means take it, you may learn some valuable information.

Just my 2-cents though.

Thanks for the reply angelicknights, I'm actually gonna take the gap year and try my best to save some money and even travel.

^ I think you made a wise decision to take a year off--but if your eventual goal is to go back to school, do you think you should spend money travelling? I mean, unless you're going to stay in hostels and whatnot and travel quite cheap... But that's still income lost from not working... I dunno. If I were you, I'd take the year off, sock anything away I could, and do some research on the field and see if this was something I *really* wanted to go in to.

2,000 for one course? (plus I'm assuming that a pound is still more than a dollar). makes me feel less bad about my current student loans.

^ Dang, I totally missed that in the original post. Not to derail the thread, but yeah, my current tuition is 2k USD (for five classes and two labs)... If I did the conversion right, my tuition would only cost 3k in pounds... 2k for one class? Eek.

Maybe it's a private school.

I actually keep thinking about this and I definitely think your right, I really do wanna get back into education next year, so I will save as much as I can and work as much as I can, also try and tuck away some cash for the luxuries too.

^^believe it or not guys, but it's totally true and no it isn't a private school, I suppose in the US it would be called a 'community college', a pretty normal and average educational institution.

^ The advice I gave you was what I did this past year. I had graduated in '09 from a CC (community college) with an Associates degree you basically can't do shit with. So, I took the year off and thought long and hard about what I wanted to do. Went back to school this Fall and have enough money saved up where I was able to quit my job to be able to focus on school. I know not everyone can do this, and I am totally grateful I have a mom who has allowed me to do so... Living at home still def. helps, but yeah. /ramble

That's expensive for a CC. My tuition is for a CC. How much are other schools around you, and how much are universities? Most schools around here are 5k per semester. 15k+ for private ones.

^^I plan to do exactly what you just said, more or less anyways, just save up a t on of money if I can and just concentrate on my studies. And its totally better living at home I totally agree, my parents are also okay with this as long as I go back to my studies next year.

Pretty much all of the schools are the same price and I don't think the uni's here are that harsh on their prices, but not really sure how much they are, haven't researched it.

I think when the OP cays "class" he means FT program. Although I've never heard of psych being taught at the C. College level. In my experience, it has always been a staple University area of study.

DON'T. Not unless you are sure it is fully transferrable to any school you want to go to, and will definitely fulfill a requirement for a degree/program you want to get. Its not worth it otherwise, because you will forget most of it later, and if its not transferable, its a waste. If you just want to learn about psychology, pick up some used, cheap textbooks online and start reading!!!!
