Should Barack Obama and Cindy McCain be in Jail?

^^ your glad that I don't get financial aid? okay, well guess what? the same shit could have happen to you any day that you walk out your front door with weed in your pocket. I was caught with 4.5 grams which was divided amongst three dimebags and I wasn't selling a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g.

I was 18 years old goddamnit!! Why should I have to answer to this one minor infraction the rest of my life?

The suburb ghetto thing is true. I met my friend here but he moved to the hood. I went to see him and hang out. He went to jail... I stopped "hanging out". He will get out soon though at least. Man life is a trip as the years go on.....

The article raised some good points. This costly 'War on Drugs' is going absolutely nowhere. Personally I think all drugs should be legalized and regulated. Not only would alot of money be made due to the taxation [although not as much as what is made by confiscating and reselling them at the highly inflated black market prices]. But the funds used for this costly 'war' could be put towards methods that do work. The money could be used for harm reduction, safe shoot up centers, propaganda free drug education, etc. Not to mention this harm reduction wouldn't be anywhere near as costly as this 'war on drugs' and the remaining money could be put into things that help users and non-drug users alike like more funding for schools, roads, etc.

I have a hopeful sort of feeling that if Obama gets the vote he will try to change the "Nation's" stance on drugs...maybe soften things up a bit so not quite so many long-haired hippies get their asses reamed in prison.

According to the latest buzz Obama picked *gasp Senator Joe Biden as his VP Nominee"

Biden was the one who tried to get his "RAVE Act" passed(Reducing Americas Vulnerabilty to Ecastacy). One I vehemently protested in Washington At. He has a very strong anti-drug record. Sometimes called the Amercian Drug Czar, he has pushed for legislation to toughen laws regarding Ecstacy and so called date rape drugs like Rohypnol.

With him on Obamas team you can see a very strong possibility that they would want to toughen the drug laws not weaken them!

This saddens me very much so!

yeh obama will probably turn out to be another "domesticated tyrant" (as I will call 1st world leaders). just with brown skin. YAY!

LOL the same thing HAS happened to me. One difference: I would never walk around aimlessly with individually packaged drugs. If i was the pig I wouldn't have believed you either. Every guy that cop has arrested told him it was for personal use so he sees right through the bullshit. I'm just happy its more $$$$$$ for the rest of us =D

As far as the war on drugs.. Lets make all the drugs POW's... My house is the prison camp.

FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE who are thinking they should be punished... Calling America a savage hypocrisy...

The majority of this site is in favor of legalization or decriminalization of some sort. We all bitch about how terrible the drug laws are, how meaningless and futile the drug war is, myself included. So by this logic, why is past drug use by the the (fully powerless) potential firt lady such a big deal. Even Obama- who cares if he used drugs.

That is the point those of us who oppose the drug war are trying to make- going to jail or prison with violent/ sex offenders is just not right- Alternative rehabilition, or something.. its complex, but PRISON is simply not the answer for a good percentage of drug users.

I think its bullshit we want to end the war on drugs and some of y'all want to throw these people in prison.. the exact thing we are fighting to put an end to.

Get a grip guys! if it was your close friend or relative, who had cleaned up, turned their life around and now live a successful life (much less devoting themselves to helping our country) it is not right to throw him in jail or even criticize him for past drug use.

Besides, the prosecution window shattered yrs ago..

I think you missed the point of that statement.

The article was not saying "Our presidential candidate and first lady are ex drug users, therefore they should be in prison", it's illustrating the stupidity and futility of the war on drugs.

Without the drug trade being illegal - what would poor and desperate people do to make money? The only thing they could turn to would be violent crime/robbery. To be honest, the drug trade being illegal is just letting them put their effort into something harmless.

This damn "war on drugs" crap should be ended, alcohol does way more damage to your body than for example my drug of choice(opiates), as long as you are not taking a ton of hydro with tylenol in it, then you are ok in my opinion. I've heard of people being on Heroin for 10 to 20 years and they are still healthy.

On the other hand, I witnessed my Dad's chronic alcohol use ruin his liver and health and whole body so bad his circulation got so bad that (long story short) he ended up later on in his late 50's in a wheelchair with a colostomy and one leg amputated from the knee down, he died in his 60's due to chronic kidney failure. He never abused opiates, he was hooked on ativan, that's the only other drug I knew he used.

The thing that pisses me off more than anything about the piece of shit drug war is it effects innocent chronic pain patients like me who are or are not an opiate addict. (long story short) I had a fairly major surgery to my intestines a little while back when I was still on suboxone, when I woke up before I even got in the recovery room. I suddenly started shaking uncontrollably from the pain and this fat ass bitch nurse ignorant pro war on drugs cunt treated me like shit. If I ever could run into her at the hospital that I will never have surgery at again, I will cut that cunt down so bad and tell her I hope she gets in an accident and winds up paralyzed from the neck down, in a wheelchair for the rest of her life and then see how she would feel when the tables are turned on her and she is undermedicated with pain meds like I was.

Another thing I hate is not only the pathetic shit healthcare treatment in dumbpage(dupage) county Chicagoland too, but opiate maintenence, sure you get a nice honeymoon buzz for a month or two max when starting sub or methadone but then it develops a "ceiling effect" so you can't get high anymore. I hate the way they have this "oh we dont want anyone to feel real good" way of treatment. Well I think I should have the right to get buzzed so that I can feel that lovely opiate glow so I can get my life back again and feel ambitious so I can enjoy stuff again and even get chores etc done without feeling like crap, plus not be so depressed most the day.

Well off my soapbox I go, but one final thing, I think opiates should be handed out like candy and such dumb restrictions on them get abolished.

Obama "inhaled, that was the point" (mr. cutting edge 8) lol)

i didn't mean anything about putting them in jail i detest the fact they face criticism for past drug use.

Thread seems to be on topic, for the most part. I just think some people may be missing the point of the article. But others are pointing it out. I'll keep an eye on it. :|

I think the War on Drugs is working too well because the only street drugs that I can get with any ease are pot, cocaine, and maybe ecstasy.

You must not be looking hard enough:\
