After coming out of hospital and still being in quite severe pain after ceasing oxynorm use a GP prescribed me 1 mg of ativan for 2 weeks for help sleeping. I took it for 5 nights and have stopped being worried about withdrawal. I have definitely had what i would describe as a rebound/withdrawal. Some pretty bad insomnia and day time anxiety. After a mere 5 nights this shouldn't be anything other than a brief rebound i would hope? Anyone who could shed some light here would be much appreciated.

If you had any problems with anxiety or insomnia prior to taking them, they may return but you won't get withdrawal from taking lorazepam 5 consecutive nights in a row. Benzodiazepine dependence takes substantially longer to develop so you are probably doing worse for yourself worrying about what could happen then what is really happening after cessation of 5 days of use (nothing).

If you are concerned about sleep, there are a lot of natural or OTC options available - personally I recommend melatonin or products containing doxylamine.

The only way you could have withdrawal from benzodiazepine use after 5 days is if you have previously (and recently) been dependent on them.

As far as any natural or OTC sleep remedies are concerned i have found them all useless, i really hope they can work for you as they do many others.... and as for the second sentence i have quoted, well from personal experience this is most definately true.
