Short stories with emotional journeys

I'm looking for published stories which portray a journey + development through a time of great emotion. Could be for example, a description of the 'seven stages of grief' written by someone who has been through them. Basically looking for stories where a great emotion has to be overcome in order for the protagonist to be able to move on in their life. Can be short story/novel/poem.

This is to help build up my coursework bibliography!
