codeine can't be administered safely by IV as it can result in pulmonary edema (fluid in lungs), facial swelling and other life threatening complications.

Actually shooting up methylphenidate isn't useless at all.Im not talking about just crushing up the pills and injecting away.Purified correctly it can be pretty fucking good.
I've heard alot of people compare IV methylphenidate to IV coke.
I wouldn't know coz i've never done coke
By the way i really don't like oral or innsufflated methylphenidate,but the drugs character changes alot IV.

All medical sources STRONGLY discourage IV administration of codeine. Codeine is a drug that should ONLY be done orally.

LAAM, you're truly amazing. Not only do you have a stupid response to every thread, but now you're the only person who can safely inject codeine!
No I know people who have shot codeine its not as dangerous as the medical textbooks make it out to be.
The problem is that codeine is pretty damn good at provoking a histamine response. I believe this is the major reason it is bad to inject. Now if you are unlucky and are particularly allergic to codeine your fucked.
It also is utterly useless. Even ritalin is going to give you a rush. Injected codeine still has to wait to be biotransformed to morphine before you start feeling the good effects. As it is something like 90% absorbed orally it really doesn't seem to be worth the bother (yes this is the same guy who just asked about IV alcohol).
If you are going to do it take a large dose of anti-histamine. Or even better mix the codeine with some corticosteroids (I presume there is an injectable version of something like prednisone)

IVing codeine is not a good idea, but neither is it as dangerous as some here will have you believe. Medical sources often suggest slow infusion of IV codeine rather than bar it outright.

I have personally IV'd codeine, out of curiosity, and it was quite unpleasant. Instead of a normal rush I got a rush of allergy symptoms -- mild swelling, extreme itchiness, weird tingling in my hands and feet. The good, opioid effects didn't kick in for ~20 min or so. IV codeine is unpleasant and useless, stick with oral or IM if you must.
