Shooting oc's; massive absess.

What's up,
so the last time ive gotten a absess it kept getting bigger so i lanced it myself and drained it on my own and it went away perfectly.
so, basically-- what im wondering is has anybody gone to a hospital for this?
like, do they give you any medication for the pain or what?
do they just expect you to suffer?
im heading towards the hospital this time, but id like your opinion from my fellow filler shooters lol.

good call going to the er, that usually takes some convincing in these threads... yes, i had phlebitis in the crook of my arm that swelled up turned red and spread our into an 8" football shape. my arm was stiff or locked up so my fore arm was always a few inches from my bicep.

i was 15 at the time and scared to death, of my arm, and my moms reaction. i took a bath to think, see if the swelling would go down, and to build up the courage to have to go and admit that i was shooting dope again...

she freaked pay out a minute then we went to the hospital, they gave me probably some prednisone, an antibiotic, and a prescription for more antibiotics.

it was worth it none the less, me my arm started healing quickly, it only took 5 days to progress to that point, i would of been fucked in f.ive more.

Well did they atleast numb you or anything... ny god I don't want to go through this pain again.
Or-- should I get really high before I go.. lol
 
just go get it over with.
i bet youre not going to want to after you get high,heheh riiight ;) you really needed this looked at days ago probably. the dope will be there if necessary to put you to sleep -well ((?))...

the last person, a long time member who i wa having the same conversation with in a thread about an abcess, overdosed hours later before going to the er. and detox, for serious ~ s1ck

I haven't gone yet, it has gotten a tiny bit smaller and i read that a hot heat compress as often as you can will help it go down.. if it doesn't within the next couple days or if it suddenly gets larger and red like the last one that i lanced myself became-- i will absolutely go.
 
The longer you procrastinate for, the worse it might become. You can't turn back time once your arm is completely fucked.
 
yeah i'd go to the er, my friend that I shot up with had a huge abscess about the size of a golf ball but yeah, after several days the thing got a little bit bigger when we thought it would have gone down so she decided to go to the er and they ended up giving her a few antibiotics and draining it. Not to make you worry but she said they did lecture her somewhat about her IV drug use but just wanted to give you a heads up even though it's none of their business. but to everyone else i have a question...do you think if someone comes in with a problem that has arisen due to shooting heroin, oxy or whatever that the hospital would flag you as a heroin addict? From what my friend said they did to her after seeing this because she went in for some sort of hairline fracture in her wrist and they gave her some b.s. pain killer not even vic's when I've gotten those just for stubbing my big toe...so just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure...

no, it doesnt itch at all. the one i did have a month back did and definitly needed to get drained so i did it at home. but this one seems to be calming down and barely hurts today and the swelling is going down.
ive already been to the er today and was admited and ugh it sucked and now this??
if i can avoid the er as much as possible i will.
but i wont be able to handle lanceing and draining it myself without mad ocs in my system first again.

so ill keep everyone updated.
 
don't try draining this, firstly i recommend seeing a doctor.
if the swelling is noticeably subsiding, and any discoloration seems to be going away then,, it may a 72 hour thing; ive had plenty that went away, but a few that would of killed or taken part of an arm at least.

if it does seem to be healing, dont try draining it, let let it be. some antibiotics would be very good for you now, and the next couple of weeks. this seems most common with people who bang their pills,,, im sure you know and try but that binder in a killer too, try and always using more caution then the time before, its hard to give a shit when you suck, but the sickness will be over, being reckless and harming yourself over something preventable in the first place is a real shame.
 
Its mostly the anti-biotics that is the reason you need to go to the hospital...So It doesnt get infected and you dont get blood poisoning and die. Yes lancing is important but not nearly as important as getting anti-biotics if you need them. You would be suprised how quickly you can get really sick and pass away.

Should deaden it with lidocaine or equivalent. After lancing it, they should pack it. Usually the pain will subside once this occurs as the pain was coming from the swelling/pressure that is no longer present.

I assume this type abcess is similar to a boil, and this is where the info I posted resulted.

Had a boil right between my asshole and nut sack, not the proper medical terminology but you get the idea, and the moment the er doc cut it open (lanced) and it begin to drain, away went the pain. Course I still asked for pain meds, in case of any "lingering" pain, and received.

Good luck with it, and just be glad it ain't where mine was!
 
Not sure which location your are in, Disheartenm but GO TO THE HOSPITAL, or at least an ER Room and stop delaying it. A long time ago I injected too deep and (mistakenly) thought i had hit some major nerves and shooting pain went up and down my arm and it then felt dead for quite some time. I was so embarrassed/nervous about going to the doctor and feeling like a 'junkie' but I did anyway.

It turned out it was nothing but the point is that if your hesitating because you are concerned about what some doctor will think then ignore it - it's your health and that is their primary concern. Also, most major cities have doctors associated with injecting drug users that you might feel more comfortable seeing. Although if you are in the US not sure how that works...

PS I know this sounds dramatic, and I am hesitant to quote a movie, but have you seen Requiem for a Dream? Sure it was a drama, and not all abscesses play out like that, but that is what can happen if you don't get abscesses seen too as soon as possible.
 
^^^^^^^+! the ketaman, facts and truth there....Just go get it over with, you can get ill real quick, you do not want blood poisoning, thats some bad news.It wil get real red and start spreading, feel VERY tender as it spreads on your arm that when you know you have as erious infection.Good Luck..Peace
 
The main incentive with going to the hospital is the antibiotics they give. I forget the name of the pills, big red ones that always clear your mind a little easier.

I have went for help a few times for ugly shots. IV antibiotics a couple times, never did I get pain meds except for the gram it took for me to walk in there. The infections that could happen always sometimes scared me. Endocarditis.

omg, today its so much smaller.. i really hope panic is right about it possibly being a 72 hr thing.
the hot heat compresses are helping and im taking antibiotics i had laying around from a prior root canal, thats what ive done with all my absesses and i have all these antibiotics all over the place from back when i didnt think they were important.
thankfully i saved them.
i know the humilitation sucks so bad from doctors..
could you belive i wanted to be a phlebotomist? lol
maybe one day... but right now.. theres no way i would get through those doors with tracks and cut scars like mine.
i just feel like id like to turn my self abuse around and instead of poking myself constantly, and killing myself in the process-- why not do it to help another, blood work is very vital to so many things.
....and i hate the n00bs that go fishing.

Yeah, taking half a regimen of antibiotics is worse than taking none at all in some cases.

Lawl at the guy that said "ER room"...emergency room room. I always think that kind of shit is funny, like if someone says "ATM machine."
